The key, which you think freed you, is of no similar use to your children. Either they are not prisoned as you were, or you still are.
I would absolutely support abolition in favor of "criminals" stalked by Optimus robots - provided these were the present actually existing Optimus robots, without any remote operators.
Elon Musk’s proposal to have criminals stalked by Optimus robots is significantly less stupid than the position of actually existing abolitionists

This is a devastating short 🧵, and points up a potential interpersonal divide emerging that I didn't anticipate, but probably should have. 🧵 focuses on legit psych problems given how bots are programmed, but there are so many other problems. Mainly we have unresolved questions of who gets to own...

This is a thoughtful thread. I do think there are 2 things in it worth challenging. The obvious one is the step @lastpositivist.bsky.social makes from achieving contempt for his opponents to "resist[ing] ameliorative measures [aimed at those opponents?] that seem too kind." The challenge...
With genuine shame, recent years in politics have given me my first taste for what it is to have moralised contempt for my opponents. Not hatred, not fear; contempt. There's some core element of the right wing coalition at the moment which seems to me best described as a revolt of the loser men...

"One trick is to refinance every couple years - you never have to pay it off at all."

People are reacting to this as if Trump is a fool abt it. He knows the best scams are ones you can play from either end.

"Set up an LLC, take out a 100-yr mortgage. Payments are deductible, then you file Ch 11."
INGRAHAM: Is a 50 year mortgage really a good idea?

TRUMP: It's not even a big deal. You go from 40 to 50 years. All it means is you pay less per month

Absolutely this. For 1 thing, straightness isn't a neutral index, even of typicality. It's a competitive contest, and the prize created by the contest. Contestants compete by controlling, but also recruit contestants by controlling. For another, there aren't enough trans ppl to be the usual targets.
I am start to think transphobia is more about cis people trying to control each other more than it ever was about actual trans people at all

I often think about how the government hounded Aaron Swartz to death for scraping Jstor, yet all these AI companies scraped almost literally all of human knowledge (and continue to do so even when they're told to stop) and have had no criminal consequences.

Citizens, I give you: the concept of a plan!

"The regulated insurance, with mandated coverage and limited subsidized profits, is BAD. So we'll do away with it and just subsidize... unregulated insurance."

With money left over! What's lolsob is this is basically an argument for UBI, but...
“In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare.”

This, but also: if none of us is free while one of us is chained, it follows that none of us is safe while one of us is threatened. Whether safety is a right or not, it must be universal or it's another weapon / privilege. You don't get to be (or feel) safe while others are deprived of the same.
I have been screaming this to the heavens for years and it’s lovely to see more people noticing: BEING safe is a right, FEELING safe is between you and your therapist. And the demand to FEEL safe is constantly weaponized to deprive other people of their real, actual safety.
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.

"It's not a tax: it's a fine!"
Fascinating to see the Trump administration argue that the use of state power to extract money from citizens is not taxation if the purpose is to disincentivize some behavior that the government dislikes, rather than to raise revenue. That is not what Republicans used to claim to believe.

I'm uneasy giving out my name now. A clerk asked me to repeat it a few weeks ago. I did & added "no, I don't have the files." She laughed - not hard, but a genuine, easy, pleased laugh.

The man was a grade A shmok so it doesn't seem right to make light. I'm more than tired of the association tho.
