Some day I'd love to see every law that restricts anything as "harmful to minors" come with a definition of harm and a requirement to prove it, instead of being allowed to simply assert it.
"harmful to minors" has always been a political term that means "anything that offends my morality". It's never been about actually protecting children.

This is right. The fact that they’re doing this to “innocent people” is not irrelevant, but it’s ultimately not the point. People convicted of crimes have rights too. And you can be damn sure that if they want to convict them - or me, or you - of something, they will.
I know this sounds like pedantic scolding but I really do believe that doubling down on the idea that criminal records are a meaningful distinction is like carefully digging a pit that we can be shoved into.

Genuinely, I think the “justice is punishment” mindset is a big part of how we got to this place.
People are extremely willing to be hurt if others will be hurt more. And that’s a necessary precondition for fascism to flourish.
