This is one reason I keep trying to remind people of the power that we have. That we have *always* had. Not because I’m in denial, but because I know history. I’m no sophisticated intellectual, but I do know we’re going to win even though the bad shit is really terrible right now.
Too many people on Bluesky think that relentless expressions of despair are a sign of intellectual sophistication.

I taught a class on “hope” last year and the few theorists who’ve written on it all point out that hope is the harder choice - that despair is easy and too often fashionable

Our founders, though deeply flawed, understood that democracy requires an informed citizenry and a government accountable to it people. That’s why the press is the only profession protected by the Constitution. It’s also why autocrats and oligarchs seek to control and destroy it.

If they redeem themselves, they wouldn’t care if they got their status back and they might not even want it; that’s how redemption works; that’s what redemption is. What they want is exoneration for free, with a side order of vindication.
In the event that say Gaiman or Rowling or Orson Scott Card or [insert name] magically redeemed themselves, we still wouldn't owe them our time, money or attention nor would they deserve the status they once had. There have always been other people to read.

I don't know if I can come up with a better encapsulation of anti-anti bullshit than "If we do not employ this Pedophile, the Woke wins."
Simply incredible

If you campaigned for the presidency on a promise to destroy these assholes, you would win a landslide the size of FDR in 1936, when he campaigned on a promise to destroy these assholes.
Yes, Peter decided that the continued existence of our democracies isn't compatible with his desired level of personal freedom.

An absolute enemy of humanity.

Re: previous post
A certain world-famous fantasy author was revealed to have done a ton of horrific crap, with journalists like Lila Shapiro providing the evidence.

Now said author has new book coming out and claims he's the victim of a "smear campaign."

Why do rich asshats always claim it's a smear campaign? 1/

Sentient sun? Dude is trying to summon the Pale King.
Oh my gd.

Musk is fucking insane with this quoted sentence from the press release on SpaceX acquiring xAI.

"This marks not just the next chapter, but the next book in SpaceX and xAI's mission: scaling to make a sentient sun to understand the Universe."

Happy to report I'm coming off the most successful book fair sales-wise since launch. In fact I had one new reader say seeing my book in so many other readers' hands made her buy to see what the fuss was about. The fact that the book is still catching the eye of new readers is fuel for my fire.

The original 1933 Invisible Man is so good, it's the classic Universal Monster movie I return to the most. An absolute blast and so funny. "“We'll begin with a reign of terror, a few murders here and there, murders of great men, murders of little men - well, just to show we make no distinction."
