The guy who kept trying to get people to fix the Y2K coding problem said that the problem offended him and I get that.

It's such a dinky little inelegant obvious design failure.

Also TIL there was a guy who tried to get people to fix the Y2K problem starting back in 1979 but nobody actually really got to work on it until the late '90s.

And that pisses me off.

TIL that there actually were thousands of Y2K problems that happened but we didn't hear about them.

Probably because they did not make things explode.

But yeah for example at airports across the U.S. all the low-level wind shear detectors failed.

The thing about Y2K is that it actual was a very real problem, it’s just that before the clock struck midnight that A LOT of very hardworking computer people had put A LOT of time and dedication into preventing it from happening.

Here's a really easy New Year's Resolution:
If you're sick with something contagious, you will stay home if your circumstances allow.

If you can't stay home, you will mask around others until there is no possibility you are contagious.

By making these choices, you will literally save lives.

Democrats yesterday won the final special election of 2025, in Iowa: Their nominee defended a state Senate district by 43%. Harris had won it by 17% last year.

This win means Dems prevent the GOP from gaining a supermajority; the GOP lost the supermajority earlier this year.

we’ll stick with stuff that didn’t manage to give me flashbacks.

a woman once told me that my eyebrows were the most perfect balance of yin and yang she’d ever seen and this meant i would probably do well to rearrange my living room to align with their flow if i wanted to profit from that.

One of the right wing's top cultural initiatives was trying to destroy the idea that assholery deserves shame and we'll have to reverse that. "I'm just expressing an opinion I'm entitled to." Ok but you're an asshole. "I'm simply doing a business practice that technically isn't illegal." Ok. Asshole

Money:
Donated to NAACP, held fundraisers for MLK Jr. and other civil rights leaders, hired Black people.

Frank Sinatra was effectively accused of being woke back in 1958. And his response was to tell people, "Shut up. I'm Frank Sinatra. I do what I want. Stop being such a hateful little jerk."

I'm telling y'all, these dudes don't know anything.🤡

Frank Sinatra was a vocal anti-racist. He fought racism with his actions, his words, and his money.

Actions:
Refused to stay at segregated hotels. Made sure Black artists got paid fairly.

Words:
Literally wrote an article in Ebony Magazine

an easy way to understand this is that people make clothes cool and not the other way around. so our judgement of what looks "good" is often shaped by the cultural capital of various social groups. punks, skaters, hip hop heads, etc look stylish simply bc they are cool. thus money is not a barrier.
