Turns out this was all much ado about nothing and Google isn’t using your Gmail to train AI and if wanna turn all that stuff back on you can get your spam filters back
Looks like the article has been updated to suggest maybe they misread the policy.

I see people complaining that this also disabled their spam filters, though I still see new messages showing up in spam so it's still working fine for me after disabling things.
[Correction] Gmail can read your emails and attachments to power "smart features"
Did you know that Gmail can use your emails and attachments for its smart features? Here's how to check your settings.

This is a good time to read this trilogy if you haven't already.
So it’s the tenth birthday of Midnight, a book that was nearly but not quite a lot of things. Happy birthday, little book. Still looking good.

Great interview, but be careful: there’s a link in there that comes across as unassuming but leads to an academic paper that you may feel compelled to read/hoard w/all your other academic pdfs.

Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

Day 95

Helping other writers is nice. Telling other writers they’re doing well is nice too.

Do nice things for fellow artists for the simple reason that it’s nice to do so.

600 words every day started Aug 3 to Dec 31 for a novel draft by end of year.

In the midst of all that we are facing, I want us to think about who we are being told to look to for understanding in this moment, who is being propped up as the voice of wisdom, and ask how right were they in predicting this, a year ago, 5, 8 years ago, and then ask why they are being centered now

Hello friends. In the early days of Bsky, it was trans and other LGBTQ+ folk, along with s*xworkers, n s f w art folk, and Alf aficionados that built the platform—early refugees from X. Now @bsky.app made a change that auto blocks such posts. You must manually opt out.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Writing  - every day -  is practicing thinking clearly over and over until it becomes almost natural.

Worst case: you’ve lost twenty minutes a day that you’d likely have lost scrolling your phone anyway.

Best case, you’ve debugged your own cognition.

Bluesky's failure to catch on with the right-wing isn't because its members are uniquely censorious to people who disagree with them, it's because the one thing this site has going for it is a functional, comprehensive block system, which reduces the right's ability to bully, mock, and harass.
They're welcome to be here, none of us are required to listen. If that frustrates them so much that they leave, that's their choice.

If they can't compete in the marketplace of ideas, that's not my problem at all. We don't need to artificially boost alt views just for viewpoint diversity.
This site would actually be better if it had more voices from across the political spectrum, and efforts to push out right wing accounts are only entrenching Twitter/X's dominant position in the political discourse.
