We have to be clear about what the Trump Administration is doing: They are taking basic American virtues and freedoms — the ability to speak truth to power and freely — and turning them into crimes. We must see through this.

A lot of replies here (obviously from people not already aware of The Discourse on this point) were genuinely confused variants on "But why, they're right, that's a valid concern." Let me leave a short thread for future readers explaining why that stuff is always unwelcome on here. (1/n)

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

Hi hello, the Toronto Sun's email is torsun.editor@sunmedia.ca in case you'd like to inquire as to how they feel about their Ottawa Bureau Chief making these kinds of statements about innocent women being shot by militarized thugs in the street! Let's make his weekend extra fun :)

In light of what happened to Renee Good, I thought it important to reiterate my grandmother's advice.
My grandmother’s family was murdered in the chambers of Auschwitz. She survived and told me never let it get that far. Make them shoot you in public before they murder you in hiding. Stand up for others. Never cave in fear of the Nazis or the holocaust will happen again.

Reading the bit in Maurice Keen’s CHIVALRY about chivalry, the church, and the crusades and it’s 1) a fascinating history of how Christianity went from a religion of peace to one of war and 2) low-key explains why violent right-wingers are so obsessed with the (famously unsuccessful) Crusades

“What appears to be a newly created account appeared to invest $30,000 Friday in Maduro's exit. After Maduro went into custody Saturday morning, that same investor netted $436,759.61.”
Someone made $400K by predicting Maduro's capture. Here's what happened
The winnings come as the rules governing prediction markets are still evolving.

Some stories take more than one lifetime to tell. Two children meet during the Sri Lankan civil war & constantly run from & seek each other through their reincarnations, from the present into the distant future.

I was blown away. Do yourself a favour and read this!

Rough vibes on this website today, likely because people feel Hopeless and Helpless Because Can't Stop It and No One Who Is Supposed To Is Trying To So Now We're Fighting Each Other™. I recommend activities such as book, or potentially instrument if you like instrument, or even do talk on phone.

Let's be real about life-changing tech.

GLP-1 agonists (your Ozempic, Manjaro, etc) are life-changing tech.

People see life-changing results and seek it out and pay money for it. It has caveats, but that's not my point.

My point is if genAI was this life-changing tech...see where I'm going?
