A few months later she passes away unexpectedly.
The family gets a bill for $4140. By dying, she “broke her lease early”
A landlord gone rogue?
No. It was a billionaire property management company called Greystar.

She championed a policy rolled out last year — when you’re so much as charged (not convicted) of a drug offense, a judge can ban you from setting foot in select areas, like downtown.
She’s also up for reelection in a few weeks:

Thx to his legal team @Door_NYC he walked out of his ICE check-in today (unlike too many others).
The best of birthday presents to have been there to meet him. Amazing what a New Yorker he’s already becoming.

ICE is now changing tactics and arresting people who have been granted asylum hearings.
This is both a violation of US & international law that demands immediate attention from all New York elected officials & underscores the urgent need for legal service providers to be at all of these cases.

~45% of US corn production is now used to make ethanol, mostly for mixing into gasoline.
That's ~13% of all US crop land already used for energy production.
Using some of the same land for solar panels would capture 50-100 times more energy per acre.

OTD in 1871, Grant signed the KKK Act—now 42 U.S.C. § 1983—still one of our sharpest tools against local fascists. But there’s no equivalent statute for federal officials who violate rights. I'll bet a Dem Senator introducing one now would get some Sunday time to talk about ICE (and Musk).

Can anyone recommend a history of Civil Rights Movement music? I know some and there's some coverage in Taylor Branch's trilogy. But I want to learn more. I was just reading about 'Mississippi Goddam' and didn't know it was first performed live at Carnegie Hall. What a legend Nina Simone was.

Hot take: Focusing AI criticism on bad outputs or forced adoption misses the point—those are temporary, moving targets. The real and persistent issue is the social and political fallout, and the deep category errors baked into how AI is framed and deployed.

There are times—rare, one hopes—when the government acts so evasively/irregularly that courts must break out of their routines in response. This happened during the civil rights era, in cases like Terry v. Adams, Bell v. Md, Shelley v. Kraemer, Griffin v. Prince Edward Cty. Time to get creative.
