This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

📣 NEW: In which I finally put that absurd 2013 WSJ graphic to good use.

2026 #ACA Window Shopping is LIVE in Georgia, Idaho, Nevada, New York and Virginia.

Here's how much premiums will ACTUALLY spike for 4 households starting January 1st if they don't shop around.

In which I finally put that absurd 2013 WSJ graphic to good use
Twelve years ago, the Wall St. Journal ran a story about the impact of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, which was a sweeping tax bill signed into law by President Obama which locked in the Bush tax cuts for lower & middle-class households while allowing them to expire on schedule for wealthier Americans: A compromise measure, the Act gives permanence to the lower rate of much of the Bush tax cuts, while retaining the higher tax rate at upper income levels that became effective on January 1 due to the expiration of the Bush tax cuts. It also establishes caps on tax deductions and credits for those at upper income levels. It does not tackle federal spending levels to a great extent, rather leaving that for further negotiations and legislation. The American Taxpayer Relief Act passed by a wide majority in the Senate, with both Democrats and Republicans supporting it, while most of the House Republicans opposed it. The WSJ story, titled "How Much Will Your Taxes Jump?," led to widespread derision at the time for wringing its hands over wealthy people having to go back to (gasp) paying a few percent more of their sky-high incomes in taxes.

First they came for the Communists, and I said "we can't afford to defend the Communists here, we need to be palatable to defeat the fascists"
The "oh you won't compromise and abandon [marginalized group]? enjoy the nazi takeover!" argument rings pretty fucking false when you consider that the horrors of a nazi takeover begin with the abandonment of marginalized groups.

"Evangelicals do not value children as people. They see children as mission fields, as objects to convert rather than as people to be in relationship with. And in my mind, such thinking (and the theology underlying it) is antichrist."
Mr. Rogers and Child Liberation Theology
Child liberation theology is not about abstract ideas but rather the simple yet radical act of treating children humanly and justly—something Fred Rogers took seriously.

Back on the south coast of England visiting family. Thanks to @irishrainforest.bsky.social and others I now look at landslip forests in a completely fresh way. It's amazing to see what grows on a landslip in a decade while it's out of the reach of grazing animals and human intervention.

It was often an expensive, time-consuming & humiliating process. Now, & my fellow Latin Americans know this verb well, you can also be disappeared if you travel to a meeting in the US. At a minimum, can we have a moratorium on important international tropical & infectious disease meetings in the US?

The smears against Zohran coming from the Democratic establishment are also a sign of fear—they’re more scared of the party becoming progressive than they are of the country already being fascist. If Zohran wins, it signals a reckoning. If Cuomo wins, they can keep the failing status quo intact.

Really dig Yuko Gunji, a kintsugi artist in NYC. Kintsugi is the Japanese method of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and gold. Instead of trying to make things look new again, it highlights the faults, showing how something can be beautiful even after it was broken.
