When Texas tried to steal 5 seats, I said to watch the litigation my law firm had filed because we had a good chance of winning in court. Today a federal court BLOCKED THE MAP.

While the legacy media ignored our case, Democracy Docket covered it from gavel to gavel. Subscribe now. hubs.ly/Q03M8rql0

Happy Thursday! Almost through the week. We're still sitting still at $1473 short of the goal of paying November's overdue bills. I keep vascillating between real scared and just numb. It's been a hard year.

Thank you so much for all your help! Remember even just sharing this can make a difference.
I was just laid off for the second time this year. It's going to be a hard fall and winter. My safety net, as is the case for too many of us especially these days, is the kindness and generosity of friends and strangers. Anything helps.

I think one of the reasons I like friends to lovers romances more now is because the thought of investing energy into a romantic relationship with someone completely new makes me want to sleep for 100 years. Not that I actually have any friends I would want to become lovers, just conceptually

We ordered Thai food tonight, I opened my container of stir fried rice noodles and saw a green bean poking out of the noodles so I popped it in my mouth and started chewing.

You know where this is going.

It was not, in fact, a green bean.

Fortunately, I have a high heat tolerance.

Wow, huge credit to Katie and the rest of the nutrition team at @centeronbudget.bsky.social. USDA has now issued revised numbers because CBPP caught them either accidentally or intentionally making huge errors that would severely underfund SNAP, in direct violation of court orders.

A friend who is having knee replacement surgery next week asked me to help her with errands yesterday. When she said she wanted to buy canned goods for the food bank I pointed out they would rather have $. We talked about it for a while, mostly I let her talk through her feelings…

We finally got a group of trick-or-treaters. When I opened the door I commented that they were the first we’d seen. One of the older boys said, “I remember you from last year. You wanted us to take 2 or 3 bags of chips.” I laughed and told the group to take 2 or 3 bags of chips.

2 good things about today. I’ve had a splinter in an inconvenient place on my right hand for days. Today a friend stopped by and I got the bright idea to ask for help. It took 2 minutes.

I remembered I had 1 more birthday cinnamon roll in the freezer. It’s in my belly now.

I have a new novelette out today! It's about disabled people caring for one another--even when one of them is a phantom.

It's free to read at @reactorsff.bsky.social.
New story day!

"Phantom View" is about a son caretaking for his father, and discovering a blurry person in all their family photos that he has no memory of. The same figure is in all his dad's paintings--and the figure may be in the house with them right now.

Were you not able to participate in #NoKings?
Or did you go and are looking for somewhere to put that energy?

Here's two things anyone can do (from home! which take 5 min!):

Two things you can do to help remove RFK Jr:

1) Call your electeds and tell them he needs to go. There's already drafts of impeachment/removal work in both House and Senate. Tell electeds to support them.

2) Sign the petition that'll go to the HELP Committee in the Senate at firerfk.wordpress.com
seems that RFK is clearing the path for his CDC to do tuskegee syphillis experiments as a matter of course. in other news, RFK is a genuine monster who relishes in the pain and suffering of those he feels he has control or dominion over

Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?
This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.
AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

If you want a quick/easy way to find contact info for your electeds, 5calls.org has phone numbers and scripts for you to use on a number of issues.

Phone not happening today? Every senator and representative should have a "contact me" form on their website, and you can paste the script from 5calls.
It's my birthday! And my bday wish is for you to do something to help democracy/community. You could:
Call/email your reps
Donate to a food pantry
Help a disabled friend bring in groceries
Babysit so friends w kids can go to a protest
Help fix a nonprofit's website

The possibilities are endless!
