performative is orthogonal to liminal in a nontrivial way
Has “performative” become the new “liminal” in that it’s a term that is very useful but its misuse on social media is rendering it difficult to use

It really does seem like there's a decent chance that these senators screwed us because they don't want their personal Thanksgiving plans to be disrupted.
Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

I make things because I can be honest and nuanced and messy through the things I make. It’s for my own self expression and sometimes if I’m lucky, it’s to feel seen and to connect with the audience.

And other times, I also make things for money and recognition when it’s necessary.

I ditched it & did this research recently. Even Apple gives more money to the artists. Spotify is literally the bottom level.
Don’t just cancel your subscription, stop using the platform completely.

I understand “but support the artists!” feels like a reason to stay, but artists get paid basically nothing per stream and maybe the loss of spotify royalties will move your faves to act
Reports of ICE ads on #Spotify were noted in early October. People began calling for boycotts immediately.

Now, nearly a month later Spotify is seeing major losses.

And we can do ever BETTER. 👏👏👏

Part of an absolutely stunning thread by @dieworkwear.bsky.social that covers the Battle of Blair Mountain (largest labor uprising in US history), The International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, the book Bowling Alone and an appearance of @unitehere.org
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

In Die Another Day, a mirrored satellite for “agricultural development” is actually a space laser that melts Iceland and then targets South Korea

it’s built by a North Korean general who (lol) uses gene therapy to become a white billionaire

The satellite is named Icarus

the day that society at large understands that testosterone and estrogen are necessary hormones in your body regardless of your sex, and that hormone supplementation is a health question rather than a loaded emotional question, will be one of the greatest days in human history.
when trans people take HRT to feel normal: “look at these depraved sex freaks performing their sick fetish in public, we should bully them out of existence”

when cis ppl take HRT so they can fuck real good:

School has completely on accident started training kids for email jobs because the people who design or buy the software all have email jobs and think of kids as “users”
I'm sure this has been written about somewhere, but as a parent I am struck by how much greater my high school kid's executive function is expected to be versus what was expected of me - and it's entirely because all his work is online. He has to not only do the work but submit... 1/8

This hits a lot of the notes I've been shouting from the rooftops: the frictionlessness of both producing and consuming slop, and the value of labor as friction that lets us slow down and think. Rather than "unlocking creativity" it's rendering our collective creativity down into a big vat of slop.
Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

The slop is winning.
