I have a degree in Women's Studies & I can't tell you how many "basket weaving" jokes I heard as a student. It's not only a lazy dudebro quip à la Bootstrapping, it's also sexist as hell. Treating woman-coded artisans as useless is booooring.

i think lots of people underestimate how badly these “AI” companies want people to be unable to afford computers. they view personal computing as a roadblock to their desire for complete end-to-end centralization. the fact that their tech is putting hardware out of reach is not just a happy accident

One of Lowell Green’s moves was to tell his listeners to bombard certain targets with phone calls. Mostly city councillors, sometimes other levels of government, occasionally others. Once in a while it was the Citizen—he’d urge people to call and demand why X or Y story wasn’t on the front page.
I’m very sad to hear of the passing of legendary Ottawa broadcaster Lowell Green. I grew up listening to Lowell on CFRA and then became a colleague and friend for 20 years. He was a groundbreaking talk show host and proud Canadian.
