funny Star Trek thing: they cast Brent Spiner as Commander Serious in 1985, then immediately realized that Brent Spiner is a certified S-tier Weird Freak Guy actor, and have spent the past 40 years casting him as a variety of Weird Freak Guys who just happen to look identical to Commander Serious

for what it's worth I think "they would rather starve Americans than pay for health care" is a winning message

What about the deal that gives your colleagues immunity from being investigated?
My statement on the funding deal to reopen government, protect federal employees, and vote to protect health care:

We're officially live. It's incredibly important to have a real record of how our public servants are behaving and this database will be a powerful tool for researchers, reporters, and ordinary Americans.
1/6 A new standard for public accountability is here. GLOW—Government Lawyers Oversight Watchdog—is officially launching today to hold government lawyers accountable. We're unveiling The Government Lawyers Database at glowlaw.org. #RuleOfLaw #Accountability

Someone should ask what princess he means because I bet he says “Helen”
So every part of this is dumb but the idea that the Iliad is about 'fighting for princesses' is such a vapid take on a work that tells you exactly what it is about in the first (and last) lines.
You can tell the poem isn't really about Bryseis because her return does not resolve the conflict.

Nope. Fight now. Otherwise you’re gone too.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Dick durbin does not care about Chicago, let’s be real here
And the truly craziest thing abt this cave is that someone seeing the invasion of Chicago firsthand, Dick Durbin, doesn't understand this.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

North Carolina. Pennsylvania. Nevada. Georgia. I could name more.
Really if you want to blame someone, there’s a lot of people you can blame who are more at fault than Schumer
Voters in Ohio and Michigan for example

I will say that while I think this was always going to be the outcome, Dems have really outdone themselves from a comms and unity standpoint this time around

Good night grampa, go to bed
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

If we had faith in Dems comm teams (and if they had managed the break in sync) then they could all state together that this policy choice should be hung around the republicans necks for 2026 and 2028.
We might still get there, but the caterwauling isn’t helping.

Then why do the shutdown at all? What did it accomplish? The Democrats knew going into the shutdown that it would mean federal workers eat shit indefinitely - Republicans even cited it as a reason Democrats would break: and they were right!
Not that there's a bunch of us, but I think a contingent of feds on here have been incentivized to just block 50% of the users here tonight, because man "you should eat shit indefinitely for undetermined reasons so I can poast about The Revolution" is a taek I guess, but not one I want to see

I would like to know how people thoughts Dems were going to get any concessions here, particularly after the elections ended in no R defectors

any bsky poaster have a theory of victory aligned with keeping the govt shutdown indefinitely I'm all ears, because again I think I've got a history that's pretty indicative I'm more than supportive of COAs that fuck me over personally if there's a viable path to an achievable end state
Okay so again, you gonna forgo your income for another 13 months?
Because you're asking me and a couple million of your fellow citizens to do that, and I don't think it's too much to ask for a plausible theory of victory aligned with that COA

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.
We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.
A vote for this bill is a mistake.

This would actually be very funny
Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.

A lot of people with strong opinions on the Democrats folding are not people who have gone 40 days without a paycheck.

Or have it be vetoed
This is actually a huge get
(and which also might sink the deal in House anyway)

The RIFs language is actually great. Not only does it rehire the people RIFed during the shutdown, it makes it an unequivocal Antideficiency Act violation to do ANY MORE RIFs through the duration of the CR (Jan 30)
Completely stops Trump/Vought Phase 2 for now
Would love to see this standardized
