Interests: #Sportscience, #Metabolism, #Mitochondria #SportsNutrition but I can't resist a well-written journal article of any kind. Getting wiser now so #agingscience. Also interested in “kines” of all kinds.
I also grew up in this era. My boys did not. They grew up with video games and social media but they are empathetic, moral, kind men who are able to treat everyone—even those who are not like them—with respect. Because that’s what we taught them.
I’m Gen X. So as a kid, my summers meant getting shoved out of the house. Playing outside until dark. We swam, scraped our knees, fought, made up, and met girls. You had to make friends in the flesh. No choice.

I have a lot more to say, so check my video write-up.

At my high school you had to be a girl to use an underhand grip.
What were RFK Jr and Pete Hegseth doing today for the taxpayers?

My dream is a multi center study that measures maternal exposure to organophosphates and glyphosates—both of which disrupt folate metabolism, maternal folate status, the MTHFR genotype and ASD risk.

The ASD curve and Glyphosate application
Curve are nearly identical (Not necessarily causation)
The admin didn't have to do any of this. This could've been a funding announcement for a well powered multi center trial of leucovorin that considered key covariates. They could've pushed Congress behind the scenes to expand access to dietitian coverage for individuals with autism.

It’s an incredible act of cognitive dissonance. For years, the GOP has *defunded education
*voted against a livable wage
*cut healthcare to rural (all) communities
*defunded infrastructure
*defunded Medicaid
*increased anti-competitive practices
*gave incentives (Bush) to send jobs overseas
On a small level I feel for them, it's a largely thankless job, Long hours, not much money to be made, and theey are stuck in an area where the propaganda machine grinds away on then non-stop.

That said at some point you'd think something would snap and they would wake up, but they seem quite bendy

Does he realize that Americans pay for tariffs? Nope.
Soybean farmer: 60% of the soybeans we produce in this country are exported. Of that, half of those go to China. We're not gonna go back out there and find another buyer like China to replace that market share. Tariffs are gonna be pretty hard on us in agriculture

Looks delicious.

Remember when farmer’s markets were where you went to get inexpensive produce?
A lovely morning at the market!

It could be worse. It could be Apple’s new Emoji game.

It’s part of Apple News. It makes the purple row of connections look completely reasonable.
The only thing more maddening than giving NYT your hard-earned money, is the idea of actually paying for the purple row in Connections.

Update: HHS walked back its earlier statement saying it was cancelling contracts to Springer Nature.

Now, HHS says NIH staff have continued access to all scientific journals. Unclear if this applies to other HHS agencies like FDA or CMS. And USDA, DOE, NASA have allegedly cut all SN contracts.
Trump team says it’s axing some contracts with publishing giant Springer Nature
The action comes as high-ranking US officials criticize leading journals as ‘woke’ and ‘corrupt’.

Musk has already commented about this system saying there have been “virtually no incidents”.

I’m waiting for the GOP to encode that into law wherein any company that has “virtually no incidents“ cannot be found at fault.
Tesla's 'bet the company' initiative is a 10 car Robotaxi service with human "safety monitors" in the front seat.

Explain to me why this car company is worth a trillion dollars?
Tesla's robotaxi debut will reportedly be limited to only 10 cars in very specific areas
Tesla's robotaxi service could have as few as 10 cars and might not be available to use in high-traffic parts of Austin.

The worst thing about this myth is that it deflects from the real causes.

A more likely set of candidates is pesticides or any other substance that disrupts one carbon metabolism during brain development.

I would love to see parents put their energy into protesting those types of substances.

Thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative still used in some multi-dose flu vaccines.

It was falsely linked to autism in the 1990s—a myth thoroughly debunked.

This CDC page (*for now*) links to numerous, rigorous studies disproving the thimerosal/autism claim.

Your argument is absurd. First, most of the drugs for gender affirming care are generic and second, there aren’t enough children seeking gender affirming care for big pharma to spend a dime on them.
I might add that many of those scientists are receiving substantial resources from big pharma to push these medicines on kids. What do you think?

Except this isn’t what @jmroth.bsky.social was saying. He was saying that professional athletes are, by multitudes, more talented than others. Of course they have ungodly focus (sometimes) but no amount of ungodly focus is going to turn someone into a pro athlete if the don’t have ungodly talent.
No, it's not. Such kids discover the limits of their abilities somewhere along the way, or the limits of their commitment.
Pro athletes are not just "god-given" instruments; they've built and earned their level with ungodly focus and dedication. They deserve to be respected for that hard craft.

It is absolutely just talent. They may get additional training, but no amount of optimal training is going to turn someone in the 98th percentile into the 99th percentile. I cannot stress this enough. And to be a professional athlete, you need to be in the 99.97th percentile.
It ain't just talent, lots of folks have talent.
A pro player has often a decade's worth of very specialized development work already behind him/her when that first contract gets signed.
Optimal physical training, high-level instruction; their talent gets maximized + honed to a sharp edge.

To our veterans, I can only wish you some moments of peace as we remember your friends.

Also not remotely realistic. That’s exactly what they want—for the journalist to move on or leave. The proper response is to say “I have provided you with the information, what is your response?”
Yeah, this is not remotely hard.
I’ll say it again - when *any* politician uses the ‘I haven’t read that story’ lie about something they knew they would get asked about, the interviewer has a duty to say ‘Okay, in that case I’m going to terminate this interview and you can come back when you’re better prepared.”

And another question is how Harvard would achieve the goal of dissolving diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives while simultaneously forcing them to hire professors to equally and inclusively present the “diverse” view of conservative thought.
David French’s column today says Harvard is “remarkably intolerant,” the speech environment is “abysmal,” and left-wing bias is “overwhelming.”

So I have a question: if they’re so biased against conservatives, how do they keep being a stepping stone for influential conservative lawyers and judges?

My question: would his family farm have survived 200 years without the public welfare called farm subsidies?
Because I think there was a mistaken belief by the rural demographic that welfare was for the “other” people.
