Superbowl ads for the last 5 years have been capital displaying total cultural victory by publicly humiliating celebrities.

All of your childhood heroes work for Uber Eats now. There is no mass culture unless Liberty Mutual says there is.

A writing experience that seems universal but I've only seen one person write about it (@katemckean.bsky.social - buy her book if you're a writer, it's great) is the sense quite far into a draft where you lose confidence in it.

I think it's very normal, but that's where I am today!

I see a lot of women in filmmaker groups say - use AI or get left behind.

Left behind by whom?

How?

I don't buy the argument.

But you do you and I will do me.

Best of luck to you.

I'm with @johnpavlovitz.bsky.social.

Trump supporters don't have "economic anxiety" and they're not misunderstood.

By their own words, deeds, and votes, they're amoral, racist people lacking the characteristics of decent human beings.

And I will never forgive what they have done to my country.
We need to withhold our friendship, exclude them from our holiday gatherings, cut personal and professional ties, and, practically speaking, marginalize them.
If we truly believe in bending the arc of the moral universe toward justice at this place and time, his supporters need to become pariahs...

The simple fact of the matter is that we have a president that is too lost in the sauce to understand that the country hates all this & all of his viziers are too dedicated to their own projects to give a shit about public opinion. This is what that looks like. Its groupthink at a terminal level.

Not sure why but the whole BookBeetel thing is just weird and uncomfortable and I don't want anything to do w/ it.

It makes me think of the Human Centipede for some reason.

Auden did something similar with LBJ, iirc, although he ended up accepting the award without a ceremony
WS Merwin wrote “Presidents” in 1970.

In 1971, he declined a Pulitzer, citing the Vietnam War —“too conscious of being an American to accept public congratulation with good grace, or to welcome it except as an occasion for expressing openly a shame which many Americans feel."

I was extremely naive in my twenties and early thirties, took people very much at their word when it came to values, and absolutely destroyed my mental health (and my career) thinking I could publicly demand accountability and survive it whole.

the Epstein files make it very clear why the MeToo backlash was so extreme and why so much of elite society preferred Donald Trump ruling us like a king to the barest hint of accountability

It still to this day amazes me that GWB sold the American Public "We're not going to let al-Qaeda change who we are" while he simultaneously transformed the USA into a surveillance state.
