A fun way to avoid these godawful 'AI overviews' is to just... not use Google. I recommend Qwant, but there's also Ecosia or (if you're willing to pay) Kagi.

No shade to anyone still using Google but I know a lot of people are still using it out of habit. Want to remind folk there are alternatives!
I was sent this, and I...I don't even know where to start.

I came here to suggest the exact same book. Honestly, a delightful duology ✨️

Not thin blood Trump 😭 the idea that Trump is being kept alive by thin blood alchemy... actually, that's a hilarious idea for a vtm campaign!
Trump admits to taking more aspirin than his docs recommend: “They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart. I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”

What could possibly go wrong! (2/6)

Finally made it to chapter 2 of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. This game is shockingly good for a debut studio!

This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write."

A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption.

B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

Less so unhinged and more just backhanded:

After a drag performance where I stripped down to lingerie, a friend said to me: "You're so brave for doing that and not being embarrassed." 👀
Forget insults, what’s the most unhinged *compliment* you’ve ever received?

A really fascinating and thorough examination of HP Lovecraft and his racism! Give this a read
The end of the year is coming, a sadness rests on me, and bad takes on Lovecraft and racism continue to proliferate. So here, for whatever it is worth, are the Top 10 Mythos About Lovecraft & Race.

Some of which are even true. Kindof.

After weeks of going back and forth with Expedia, I have finally had a refund from my cancelled flight, and got a new one booked. I'm still going to Japan!

Still awake at half 4 in the morning because a car almost exploded in our estate!

We're all fine, but jeez, that was a bit of adrenaline! Even though all I did was watch from the window 😅

Is VtM Bloodlines 2 a 'good' game? Not really. Is it a bloody good story? Sure. Can it be fun if you crank the difficulty down to easy so that Phyre actually feels powerful like an elder vampire should? Absolutely.

A solid 6.5/10

Why isn't the plural of omnibus 'omnibussies'?

This was unambiguously my favourite read of 2025. I'm hoping you get the numbers to release the sequel! <3

if you're wondering why your trans friends everywhere are a little on edge right now, it's because a story about a radical conservative christian student abusing rules and processes to deliberately target a trans instructor consistently gets reframed to omit the entirety of the anti-trans bigotry
If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than “because I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

I see people talk about the plagiaristic elements of Gen AI all the time - and sure, it's bad - but the environmental impact of it cannot be understated.

We're destroying the planet's ability to sustain us in the interest of bad, cheap knock-offs of human art.

I bought Wuchang: Fallen Feathers on a whim today, and my goodness, this is a fun lil game. Excited to see if it keeps its momentum, but so far, I'm really into it.

I'll offer a technical opinion for anyone who finds it helpful: spellcheck (and basic grammar checking like what's been in Word for more than a decade) are pattern marching. Even "they're/their" checks are based on looking for tokens in the rest of the sentence. The scope is the text being checked &
Spell check existed long before genAI and in its most basic function is not genAI. Spell check is code. It's a function. It checks against a database of available words. Spell check in certain programs, however, may have been made worse by running it through genAI.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've checked out some of these before already, but will absolutely look at the rest too!

Barbara Walters did a whole segment on transgender kids and teens in 2007 and, outside of the usual pearl-clutching suspects, there was none of the mass hysteria like RW media has successfully manufactured.

It really wasn’t until they lost Obergefell that they turned up the heat on trans issues.
Think about this. Did you hear trans panic headlines in the 2000s? No.

Conservatives weren’t “worried” about trans people until the day they lost on Marriage Equality.

Once they realized most of us are just fine with gay marriage, they needed a new wedge issue and started attacking trans people.
I’m rewatching Mad About You & theres a joke where Ursula the ditzy waitress mistakes a recurring character for a post-op trans woman and immediately talks about how great she looks now, then deadnames her as part of a running joke at Ursula’s expense. In 1995. The great trans scare is manufactured.
