I've seen this (on a much smaller scale) with rideshares but failed to appreciate the implications. Wow.
A difference between robot cars vs. regular cars is that with regular cars, drivers walk to where they park, spreading traffic out.

With robot cars, every event turns city streets into an airport pickup line.

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.

personally, I've moved on from "Abolish ICE" to "Dismantle DHS"
We don’t need to reform ICE.
We don’t need alternatives to ICE.
We don’t need to engage in dishonest debates wondering what the U.S. would do without ICE.

ICE isn’t even 23 years old. Most adults know a world without ICE. And the billions used to fund ICE can be used to meet people’s basic needs.

Behind this important reversal is a member of the Coast Guard who saw what was happening and had the courage to leak it to the press. That person deserves serious praise.

I have a large car repair and an expensive cat vet visit to pay for in very short order. It would mean a lot if you would consider buying something.

Lots of people talking about headlights again, but haven't seen anyone sharing this 2024 article by Nate Rogers. I thought it was really helpful for perspective on how different people perceive the problem. (I do think it's a problem.)

IMO it's weird that brief deep ebook discounts are now a thing, even for new books, but it DOES mean that it's often possible to pick up a cheap digital convenience copy of a book on my shelves. Case in point: "The Most Unusual Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy" is less than $2 at multiple US retailers now.
Currently reading: The (Most Unusual) Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy by Roan Parrish

Both on the strength of The Remaking of Corbin Wale and because ooooh, spooky

I mean look at this cover

i will save you a click to a substack site: allegedly the crap art is not being torn down because of the nightmarish ai constructions, but because it subtly humanizes immigrants making small-boat crossings of the English Channel. to which I say, sometimes your enemy's enemy can be even worse. SMDH.

It’s the exclusive everyone wanted, the story that will win next year’s Pulitzer…

I can reveal London’s giant AI generated Christmas artwork, the subject of much online mockery, is being torn down - and I honestly *genuinely* think you’ll never guess why. www.londoncentric.media/p/ai-artwork...

I've dreamed of having a story in F&SF for somewhat fewer years than Scott*, but will not even be submitting again until I hear that the offending contractual terms have been changed.

*we'll avoid specifics, thanks
Scott's stand is principled. I'm so disappointed that the company that bought the print magazines is blaming authors rather than taking responsibility for their own bad contract and changing it for everyone.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...
