Just wrote my SciFi-Fantasy main character in a therapy session (in bed, after being almost killed by a monster.) Exploring the interrelationship between Rarkin's CPTSD, autism, struggle to let their guard down & people in & teamwork on the job is weaving many threads; hopefully into a rich tapestry

Yeah, its great to have space for wips/ characters that grow with you. A lot of the working through emotion and relationship struggles Rarkin has because of CPTSD is already in there, but in my case that and the autistic social challenges buried queer questioning, so the latter's now coming in.

I've always been too ADHD to have patience for planning. And even when my autism seizes the reigns & sequences plot ideas; yep, characters can make different decisions, or in this case Rarkin grows a lot, and you need to know exactly where your MC is in that moment to write that scene.

The only time I attempted an outline was after writing my trilogy, to check on story structure & see if my pantsed Frankenstein of any of the three books needed structural edits 😂.
Beyond having central plot ideas & key scenes (in my head these days), its mostly pantsing for me.

as I go is very satisfying. I don't know how this method (with the SciFi-Fantasy plot already fully drafted) is somehow less info overload than having anything on paper before I draft, but I'm glad to have figured out what works for me. Its a fair reward after trial, error, error, error 😉

Its why I prefer pantsing. A complex story is like a puzzle. You can't predict or properly know where any pieces fit until you've assembled it.
To have reached a point as a writer where Rarkin's character & romance arc are partly drafted in my head, & I can weave that & therapy sessions into a draft

I'll never forget that time I put a 4 pack of glass bottle lemon lime and bitters in the freezer and forgot about it. The explosion must have been impressive. The frozen aftermath was fascinating. 🤣

This main character is autistic, and also bad at feelings because trauma, so who knows, maybe rapping how he feels to Amon would ease communication woes? 😂
January 18, 2026 at 5:59 AM
I have the advantage in that Rarkin is autistic af, and emotionally repressed and socially awkward anyway, and Amon is ADHD hyper, and very nervous. I'm the right person to write this relationship. And I love writing when you know the start, and have an idea of the end, and pants the middle 😄

A romance arc which begins with the MC knowing he's into that person, and that person is into him, but what the fuck even is his sexuality? Can he go there, and where is there?

I've never written romance. I'm the kind of aro-ace who hasn't lived it. But Rarkin's story is demanding it. Here goes! 🤞

That's really shitty, but I suppose to be expected now criminals run the country.

I'll be glad to have my data hosted elsewhere for Bsky. I was relieved to double check my website last year and confirm its stored on servers in the Netherlands.

Yeah, I joined their waitlist months? ago. They've started migrating accounts, but you have to wait for your invite to come through.

Oh yes. Bsky de-centralisation is underway.

The idea that mothers should trust men who tell them how to be 'good mothers'; a good mother doesn't listen to that shit.

To prepare for my first author panel next month, I've drafted all the advice I could think of for neurodivergent and chronically ill writers. It includes factors to consider to meet sensory, cognitive and stamina needs, to avoid cognitive overload/burn out drafting & editing & realistic goal setting
Neurodivergent & Chronically Ill Writing Tips
I think THE most important advice for writers is 'do what works for you.' This is ESPECIALLY true for neurodivergent and or chronically ill writers. Standard writing advice is oblivious to the impact ...

I'll be wearing a tshirt that says 'they/ them causing mayhem,' but a flag is even more inclusive of myself and my characters. I think highlighting it is a good part of communicating with your target audience.
