The generation that experienced WW2 knew how bad things could get. The horrors that they had directly experienced in Coventry, on Omaha, at Belsen, Bastogne, Dresden, Nanjing & Tokyo meant that they understood how dangerous THIS was. This is where all that started.
Dutch anti-Muslim populist Geert Wilders goes full Trump, claiming on X after he lost the election that there are reports of vote fraud. Also claimed the election authority was not neutral. Tearing down the pillars of Dutch democracy. nos.nl/l/2588722

We in the UK will work out far too late that this is a bad thing.
NEW from me:
Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent.
That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀

'there are too many black people on my television these days' is about as far from legitimate as a concern can be
Conservative Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp repeatedly refusing to say that he thinks Reform MP Sarah Pochin saying she doesn't like seeing black people on TV was racist.
Says he wouldn't use her "language" but it's right for her to express "legitimate concerns" about migration

I just cannot take this shit seriously. If you're a senior Labour figure and think that the party's stance is cowardly but are too afraid to put your name on the record saying it YOU ARE A COWARD.
Senior Labour figures have expressed dismay at the Party's "cowardly" and "incompetent" response to Tory shadow minister Katie Lam calling for legal migrants to "go home".
"What’s the point of us saying we’re anti-racist when we fail to call out racism," said one MP.

Tory policy is to revoke permanent residence (ILR) for everybody who does not earn £38k - deporting most nurses who have ILR
This is put in the video as "who is unlikely to contribute more than they cost"
NB: video does not say EU settled status is exempt
No govt since Idi Amin has done this

Why are the American president's claims about autism the first item on British news bulletins?
He's not our president, the advice doesn't apply here and he's not presented any evidence to support his assertions.
So why spread these claims? What make this the biggest story in the UK?

This is a tactical, as well as moral, error.
Musk is spectacularly unpopular in the UK. There's a chance to take the patriotic high-ground, calling out foreign billionaires stoking up violence in Britain, without being seen to dismiss "ordinary people".
And you can challenge Reform to back you.

Asked on Sky News about this tweet from Elon Musk, part of a recent stream of far-right messages from the X owner about the UK, education minister Stephen Morgan doesn't directly condemn or contradict it, saying the government "understand people's frustrations across the country" about migration.

A day of shame for the UK. A political party proposes mass deportations and the response from other political parties is not to condemn this as going further than even Mosley or the National Front.
No10 spokesman not prepared to criticise anything about Farage speech today.
Not his description of "invasion", not his prediction that the UK on brink of civil war, not plans to pay the Taliban or Iran to take back migrants, or indeed to rule out doing so themselves.

I really wonder what would need to happen to disrupt the British media‘s current obsession with immigrants.
I am serious. What would it take to talk about something else? Putin invading a few more countries? Another Prime Minister being hounded out of office? Global economic collapse? A tidal wave?

I kind of get the angle, but the use of the word ‘lesser’ strikes to the heart of the point I think.
The argument is being made by nobody in the mainstream that helping people in the grip of the crisis of their lives is a noble act fitting of a country who are able to do it.

Because this hotel had been a cherished civic institution where people would hold key events or go on important holidays. And it was hurtful to see the government treat it as something lesser than that. I highly doubt anyone actually thinks asylum seekers are getting a free holiday...

Does anyone know whether migrants really commit more crimes?
News reports suggest asylum seekers are more likely to break the law than people born in the UK — so what does the data show?

Home Office staff are concerned about the “absurd” decision to ban Palestine Action under UK anti-terrorism laws, a senior civil servant has said.
On Monday the home secretary, Yvette Cooper, announced plans to ban the group, which would make membership of it, or inviting support for it, a criminal offence under the Terrorism Act, carrying a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. Continue reading...
