The Civil Rights Division is going to charge a Black Man under the Ku Klux Klan Act on MLK day.

Do I have that right?

Interesting how, when pressed to sound more forceful personally against Trump, Starmer restates essential nuclear and intelligence partnership. Wld be interesting to know what, if any, implicit and explicit threats US has made to withdraw that cooperation. Strong whiff of backstage menaces there.

A more realistic dynamic than a coordinated action by EU and/or Brazil, China, India etc is just general departure of global investors out of an American bond and equities markets that come to be viewed as too unstable to be worth the risks.

America finally achieves emerging market status
The latest twist in The Apprentice: American Carnage has triggered talk that Europe could “weaponise” its nearly $13tn holdings of US assets.

But how credible is that threat, really? www.ft.com/content/beea...
Could Europe really leverage its $12.6tn pile of US assets?

It’s only paradoxical if one doesn’t consider the rising anti-Trump sentiment in Europe. Yoking themselves to Trump/US right-wingers was only useful as a means to gaining power. Now that it’s less or not useful, the “global” right axis begins to crumble like a house of cards
Here is only at first paradoxical reaction I believe we will see more of - AfD member of the Bundestag Kay Gottschalk argues the US tariffs over Greendland call for more European sovereignty, a European military alliance, a German nuke and ends his video with the slogan "Long live Europe".

One of the fascinating aspects of UK politics at the moment is that in embracing Brexit and Trump so fervently the Reform crew around Farage don't have the same scope to euro-launder their reputations towards centre-right voters that Bardella, Meloni or Abascal now have
yup. Basically, the "EU" is a tool. Does what its political masters say. If the far-right is dominant, it is wielded in a far-right way
A category error that there is less of in UK debate now but still pops up occasionally as relic of 2010s Brexit debate is the claim that European integration is by default a liberal project

In reality EU resilience rests on how aspects of it have an appeal to every part of the ideological spectrum

We don’t need a yet-more-policed X; we need an X where only direct exhortations towards violence (all those death threats to J.K. Rowling, for example) – often accompanied by ‘doxxing’, or publishing someone’s personal information – are rigorously punished.
