If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

The collapse of the trad wife and blue collar wife who works from home model should be interesting for republicans. This isn’t Avon money anymore. A lot of of the female economy has kept middle class households afloat. But we will see 🤷🏾‍♀️
When people start complaining about not being able to find or afford products, remind them that Trump's taxes are why.

And point out that it's not just the consumers impacted. This kind of thing can easily put smaller companies out of business. He's hurting people.

I’ve been known to get out of taxis and Ubers that have that tv screen on the seat, blaring dumb gambling ads at you. How dare you??

And I absolutely choose gas stations based on if they have TVs playing on the pump.

I hate it. It took me about a year before I fully merged with my great grandma’s spirit and. Started unplugging the damn thing at night.
A thing about new TVs is that they rarely have a button on the tv itself that you can press to turn them off and I think it’s because they want to play me a screensaver as it records my private thoughts about sandwiches

We're at the very beginning of organizing a grassroots public history convening here in NYC in 2026. It will be a way to bring together folks who are engaged in local public history in a grassroots way so we can connect, share ideas, network etc... Wondering if folks in other cities have done this?

Preferring nonfiction, I rarely read fiction - let alone historical fiction. But...I really, really enjoyed Last Night at the Telegraph Club, a historical novel geared toward young adult readers. Set in 1950s San Francisco, it centers a Chinese American teenage girl discovering her queerness. #books

Absolutely.
Also we did something called “Mousercise” (the Disney kid-friendly Jazzercise) in elementary school.

I joined band as soon as I could so I didn’t have to go to P.E., which was unhelpful anyway.

It seems the question of whether historical research is a "legitimate business need" is moot, at least for now...
