My elected disappoint me daily, but I suppose it’s just that I expected integrity and instead found nothing but a gaping hole. Anyway, the day before the Democrats caved, my community got together, fed families of school kids with enough left over to fill the food pantry. We save us.

Rick Scott was CEO of a large, for-profit healthcare company called HCA. While Rick Scott was CEO, HCA stole so much money from Medicare they were fined $1.7 Billion.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

forcing SCOTUS to block SNAP benefits (at which point Senate Dems could have thrown in the towel, blaming the Court).
And instead, Senate Democrats, under the "leadership" of Schumer, capitulated. surrendered. snatched defeat from the jaws of victory

Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week
Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

Feels like this should be a no brainer and I really want The Word to stick around so maybe there are other people out there who should drop some money their way? Like you, if you’re reading this. They use GiveButter and it’s tax deductible. equalaccesspublicmedia.org
But we will get a grant — all the grants, in fact — and more donations! Because people believe in our work at @eapmstyleguide.bsky.social and @the-word.news. And our other projects, like training journalists on accessibility, and eventually launching a new national outlet.

Happy Four Seasons Total Landscaping Day to all who celebrate. I skipped it last year, but decided this year it’s important to bring it back because they are still weird.

In actual functioning democracies/republics, this nonsense never happens. The government/budget continue at baseline so long as new legislation is not passed. We are not a serious country, let alone a democracy/republic by any serious definition. We don’t have to tolerate this. It’s embarrassing.
The U.S. gov. has been now closed for a month. R congresspeople & senators not in DC. The White House starting to show some urgency just now by asking for ending the filibuster & reopening the gov as most citizens blame Rs. Paychecks have now stopped for many, SNAP in question, healthcare primes up.

Stop electing pricks. It’s just that simple. In the voting booth, ask yourself, “Is this guy a prick?” If the answer is yes, fucking vote for someone else.
Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana blames SNAP recipients for not stockpiling a month's worth of food.
He ends his tweet with "stop smoking crack."

The White House is a thing you only ever imagined being destroyed by external forces. It really paints the guy in the light of an enemy for him to waddle in and bulldoze it so cavalierly, and the suddenness of the act feels like an attack. That shit pierces normies who are otherwise tuned out.

Instead of directing states to issue partial SNAP payments to cover the gap, the feds told them to shut the system off. Starting Nov. 1, SNAP EBT cards won’t reload and after Oct. 31, any unused benefits will be frozen. Please make sure those who rely on them know.

Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

I thought this was really good and appreciate Tim Snyder’s analysis. Good reminder to keep engaging in the present moment.
SPECIAL: We got this conversation up as fast as possible because Tim Snyder's analysis of the Trump administration's agenda and methods is so important. Also: Why No Kings matters, and what’s at stake in Ukraine. This is, if I may say so, a must-watch.
