We said it plainly: This is a do-or-die moment. We need your help now. We need your support to keep going. And the message we put out on Saturday is still true today, Monday.

So if you can, can you please send a $10 donation to keep @equalaccesspublicmedia.org going?

We sent out the EAPM newsletter this weekend to 280 email subscribers. Today, it's up online. And we made the toughest ask ever. We asked everyone to rush a $10 donation to help save @equalaccesspublicmedia.org.

That's the hardest ask we've ever made.

Got a DM this morning asking me what I'd do if someone dropped $5,000 in my (nonexistent) paypal or cashapp.

I said, I'd donate it.

I'd donate it a lot of places, but right now, if someone gave me $5,000, I'd help @equalaccesspublicmedia.org survive just a little longer...

"Accessibility is not only about bodies. It is about systems. It is about whether people can enter spaces, use tools, access information, and participate fully in public life. And in the U.S., the fight for accessibility has always been inseparable from Black freedom struggles."
Today's cover article is a do not miss!

Great post by @stacykess.bsky.social @equalaccesspublicmedia.org on how to write #AltText in a journalism context 👇🏽

FYI for those new to journalism terms (like me!): a "cutline" is a caption that accompanies photos and other visuals, often placed underneath the visual.

The February issue of The Word cost about $300 to produce.

We suggest sustaining patrons of The Word give just $2.99 a month.

How many sustaining patrons would it take to pay for this issue? 100.

If just 100 people of the thousands who read gave $2.99 a month, we'd break even.

I gotta say, for an e-magazine that has a budget of used pocket lint, chewed-up gum, and some scraps of duct tape, I'm really proud of this issue.

(Technically, that's all of @equalaccesspublicmedia.org's budget, so you can imagine the part allocated to @the-word.news.)
