Had such a fun day today at #OSFC looking at A level places for my son. He wants to do triple science so we visited the labs who had pulled out all the stops and rolled out the coolest experiments.
Dissection, dry ice, colourful chemical stuff. Awesome!

Oxford people - there is another far right demo planned at the asylum hotel near the Kassam.
To join a peaceful counter protest go to the Holiday Inn Express, Guelder Rd, at 11.30 on Sunday 5th October. Really important to have good numbers there. Last weekend we outnumbered them 4:1

Doing some work for a uni course. It’s been a while since I last did this. Used to use EndNote. Now that’s prohibitively expensive.
Can’t get Mendeley to work, trying to use Zotero. No templates available for the style I need to use so I think I’m going to have to do it manually. Feels like 1994!

Fantastic! @newtus.bsky.social you will like this. I think there is an option for rude names as well!
I was looking at some English placenames recently and thought they all sounded made up, and thought it would be fun to make a thing that makes up English place names — so that's exactly what I did.

Cytosponge for #BarrettsOesophagus

@ncaresearchnhs.bsky.social recruited to one of the trials for this. Less invasive option for testing and definitely preferred by patients.
Less invasive test could replace endoscopies for over half of patients monitored for oesophageal cancer risk, study suggests.

Where is my storm?
I was promised a storm ⛈️ that would make it feel less muggy.
@chadweather.bsky.social do you think it’s coming any time soon, or am I just going to melt into a puddle? 😂

Looks interesting. Will have to read full article on big screen. But as we take cord blood fairly routinely from at risk infants, why not test for this is useful.
Seems like a large scale trial should be very doable.

#NHS #Midwifery I can see a huge amount of positives for this - mainly early identification of some rare, treatable conditions.

But I have HUGE concerns about the level of informed #consent for this, especially as this consent will be by parents, not the individual being tested.

Worked some bank shifts recently with some amazing colleagues. One shift in particular came away thinking - yep, we’ve done a really good job there.

Often that doesn’t happen because if staffing and pressures etc. You feel that you could and should have done more. 1/?

I used to really like the free pens.

No one ever offered me several thousand pounds though.

How can he be for the #NHS when he’s in the pocket of the private companies.
As a GP, I am not allowed to receive a pen or post-it note pad from a pharmaceutical company rep

The Government banned them in case I was influenced to prescribe a certain medication

This should also be banned @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social unless you have a way to justify this?

It is tea time for the dog.
I’m not sure why, but she feels the need to go and bark at the trees where the birds sit as soon as she realises it’s tea time or walk time.

I don’t think the birds care really. They aren’t getting tea. Or a walk. But dog definitely feels they need to know.
