I'm a rabbi in Tampa Florida. I'm also the Official Rabbi™ of the Poscast and Too Much Joy. I drum and golf badly but enthusiastically. I pursue mindfulness and justice. I swear more than most people think a rabbi should.

The NRA is a gun rights organization the way the Ku Klux Klan is a speech rights organization.

If they are doing this to white people in broad daylight imagine what they are doing to non-white people in detention facilities.

When the NRA finds out that a citizen was shot and killed by Federal troops merely because he was carrying a gun, there is going to be hell to pay. This is the exact scenario they have been warning us about! These are the jack-booted government troops from which we need unfettered liberty!

It’s hard to accurately describe what is happening in Minneapolis without sounding crazy.

Unmarked rental vans all over the city, with people in military gear and no id jumping out of them to take captive anyone who looks nonwhite or who makes political speech they disagree with.

“Abolish ICE” is not a radical position.

Is there a bigger gap between the pleasantness of the name and the taste of a food item than “curd”?

Also a year ago, people were chastising me (and others) for “not giving Trump a chance” before criticizing him.

I’m sure that they’ll admit we were right. Right?

FB reminded me that a year or so ago, people were deriding the anti-Trump protestors for, among other things, wasting their time with “meaningless protests.”

Such a strange stance to take, especially on or around MLK day.

I’m amazed how much attention this fact is not getting. Among other things, ICE’s tactics are a perfect cover for serious abuse by others.
What worries me with ice is that the public has no way of knowing if they are really ice. They have unmarked vehicles, wear masks, show no warrants or legal paperwork, no identification, and appear very unprofessional and violent. Anyone could be impersonating ice to terrorize our communities.

If anyone doubts that we're living in a dictatorship, those doubts can be resolved by accepting that almost all of this ends if Trump croaks. Vance doesn't have the juice to keep any of it up. No one fears him. No one is gonna deny basic reality or put their asses on the line to carry out his will.

This. I am done returning to the status quo of what got us here. I want universal healthcare. I want a maximum wage tied to the minimum wage. I want omnipresent, cheap public transit and walkable neighborhoods. I want Supreme Court and police reform, and I want the rich to pay their fair share.
We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.

Not complicated, or difficult
“But what do you expect Democrats to doo-hooo?”

1) Refuse to fund this criminal government anymore.

2) EVERY one of them call to abolish ICE (and bonus, DHS). No more “they need training” shit. Promise prosecutions.

3) EVERY one of them call for Trump’s impeachment, relentlessly, EVERY day.

Taunting is not a justification for arbitrary executions. Collective guilt is contrary to the rule of the law. Resisting the state— even if unlawful and prosecutable—doesn’t justify a death sentence. Our colonial ancestors rejected that agents of the state are absolutely immune for their wrongdoing.

So, protesting is now a Capital Offense. Got it.
Rep. Randy Fine: "If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what's coming to you. I do not feel bad for the woman that was involved."

Clear-eyed, fact-based, and written to explain to normies. No “both sidesing.” No “Trump officials disagree.”
No gaslighting that what we can see with our own eyes might not be true.

This is journalism. Well done, @people.com
