“Do not fear” is a motif throughout the Hebrew Bible. It is on us to control our fears and, in the words of the sages, to fear God. This doesn’t mean fear a man in the sky. It means to recognize our own limitations, to not be reactive, and to put righteousness before a desire for perceived safety.
I have been screaming this to the heavens for years and it’s lovely to see more people noticing: BEING safe is a right, FEELING safe is between you and your therapist. And the demand to FEEL safe is constantly weaponized to deprive other people of their real, actual safety.
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.

This is the facility that I and many others have been protesting. We’ve been hit, thrown, gassed, and shot with pepper bullets but none of that holds a candle to what is being done to people *in* the actual facility.

Read this thread. Don’t look away. Keep your eyes and the pressure on Broadview.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

The rabbis of the Talmud teach us that "the actions of our ancestors are signs for us to follow." Like Abraham welcoming strangers into his home, like Sarah feeding the needy, we, too, are taught to embody the virtues of God to provide sustainable living for all.

Important intervention by @rabbiandykahn.com. Do not confuse the institutional American Jewish consensus for an actual American Jewish consensus, which does not exist.
Jews differ on both Zionism and Mamdani
There is a choice before American Jews as we imagine our possible futures. Some argue that Judaism and Zionism are inseparable, and that questioning this premise constitutes antisemitism. Others en…

This is a good thread. Here’s another angle on problems of definitional arguments.

Basic semiotics: all signs (1) signify referents (2) TO interpretants (3).

An interpretant is a context.

Nothing ever “simply” means something without a context; whoever says it does is trying to use force.
A Jew was mad re: Mamdani & 'globalize the intifada' and this is what I said (more context downthread, read the whole thing before responding):

Original context of conversation here and next skeet
I feel like I'm losing my mind. Here is the transcript of what Zohran Mamdani actually said about the phrase "globalize the intifada." This is his "refusal to disavow it." This is what has people terrified. Just fucking read it.

Reminder as the national media and Democratic leaders lie about Mamdani's views, message, language, policies, goals, and supporters:
So much NYC mayoral press coverage centers the views of racist psychopaths and ignores the MASSIVE numbers of Jewish New Yorkers working as paid staff and volunteers for the Zohran campaign. I wonder why!
