I know this isn't really the point but how have TV's gotten nearly 100% cheaper? Is it because they spy on you now?
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.
If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

As a Quaker who is mildly sympathetic to Herbert Hoover, this is the fundamental lesson of his presidency and something he never understood.
“You can’t mutual aid state capacity” is a glaring truth of our times and the reason I stay fixedly a spreadsheet-and-sewers socialist.
ppl are bringing up food banks and yea absolutely you should give generously to food banks and panhandlers but like you cant mutual aid state capacity. If every food bank in the us got their annual revenue already, saved 100% of it, and no overhead besides food they might be able to provide 2 months
