In case you were under the impression that what was batshit about the Disney version was how horny it was: no, please rest assured that the book is like twice as horny.

There is a certain class of people — often men, sometimes podcasters, always prolific posters — about whom I simply refuse to have an opinion. You cannot make me. In a better world we wouldn’t know their names and getting exercised about them is dull.

Shahzad Akbar recently wrote for us of the Pakistani military regime’s increasing reliance on transnational repression to silence dissidents abroad – including in the UK.

On Christmas Eve Shahzad was brutally attacked at his home and hospitalised.

How Pakistan attacks critics living in the UK
The British government must consistently condemn attacks on dissidents in the UK, whether they are being targeted by allies or adversaries.

Look you do not join the marines unless you, at some level, want to take orders.
It also spawned a variety of Marines publicly indicating that they would, in fact, be down to do whatever Elizabeth Warren asked.

Some of those rape threats she got haunt me to this day and those were the ones they made in *public.*
Well... yeah.

The other bad thing is that because I read relatively fast, I have somehow convinced myself that “reading this won’t take any time at all.”
The bookshop.org app is dangerous. Much too cheap and easy to buy books.

Bari’s complaint was “there’s nothing new here” and while that’s untrue it’s also irrelevant

“we intentionally sent people to be tortured in a hellhole and bragged about it and The Hague is too good for everyone involved” is a story that simply cannot be told enough

Another round of U.S. sanctions on ICC judges, and all we hear from Europe is “deep regret.” No action, no defence of the court. These governments would rather bow their heads than get their hands dirty defending international law.

Well, my review of flu A is in. 0/5 stars, with only three people in our crew having caught it so far. You may want to mask up for travel/crowds rn even if you’re not normally a huge preventative masking person. The vax apparently is not well matched with this strain, and it’s raging

I definitely am guilty of believing and repeating things people say with confidence on social media if they seem like they know, and also I see basically everyone else do it too so kind of seems like a widespread problem of which I am a part I guess.

We will find out eventually, but my very strong suspicion is that the next Democratic president is going to be just as unpopular, because everyone is just always in a bad mood now.
I think the problem with this analysis is it assumes The Vibes dont have a material basis

“people rate the economy bad under a fascist president for material reasons that don’t show up in economic indicators“ seems..just as likely
Anyway the problem with a permanent vibescession caused at least in part by social media posturing is that while it might screw Trump in the short term it really screws the politics of generosity and solidarity in the long term. Believing times are bad makes people more selfish.

The fact that so many Democratic electeds and pundits said that we should ignore it is a stain on the party. Voters want, and the country needs, an opposition party willing to act like an opposition party.

Shout-out to those who refused to ignore it (e.g,. Chris Van Hollen).
Anyone who sends people to concentration camps to be tortured should be tried and, if found guilty, hanged like the Nazis they are.

Among my thousand other resentments: I should not have to know these people’s names, or what they look like. They are cruel mediocrities and it is incredibly damning to the national discourse that they’ve entered it.

Read this thread, from a an account of the spiked 60 Minutes story that was (apparently mistakenly?) aired in Canada.

Weiss refusing to air this story isn't just journalistic malpractice, it's running interference to help cover up atrocities.
This has been made available, so for purposes of commenting on Bari Weiss's decision to spike the story, here's a live-post of that segment.

It begins with a "you may recall" summary of the deportation to el Salvador. Describes the admin's claim that it could deport the men without due process
