Oh I have so many good “make the cops suck less” ideas Mayor Mamdani I’m not saying you should hire me but do you have someone I could talk to for like 20 minutes I will talk very fast.
The police should be broken up into like four forces each with different responsibilities and applicant pools.
My take as well: We need everything from "social worker who can dodge a punch" to "SWAT team" because sometimes someone's having a psychotic break in public and sometimes someone has a gun and hostages. The police being our one-size-fits-all solution is pretty stupid in that light.

we should not be letting any company get away with blaming AI for their failures. I'm not even sure how we got to this point. people are like "it's just a tool" okay so is a forklift and we still hold somebody responsible when it goes wrong and hurts someone. this is YOUR AI!

As one of the Realpolitikerin, this is where I'm at.

I don't think shifting the shutdown into rolling short term CRs is an apocalyptic loss. It's also not optimal play imo. I also think the fact that it makes the base livid is a bonus long term for the fight corner of the coalition

I told Schumer and Gillibrand that a "promise" of a vote on ACA funding from Rs is worth NOTHING. You cannot trust them on ANYTHING. No deal without funding the ACA.
If they cut this deal and ACA funding is cut, they will be responsible for the deaths of people who can no longer afford insurance.

We need to lobby our reps for the Stand Up for Sudan Act (S 935/HR 2059) and the US involvement in Sudanese Peace Act (HR 1939). These address, among other things, our UAE connections given their support for the RSF. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are co-sponsors!

This is certainly true but I think it is a lot easier to say this than to actually cleanly establish the feeling/being line.
One thing the NYC mayoral race underscored for me is how easily the phrase "I don't feel safe" can be weaponized. It's an argument I would hesitate ever to use again, even for a good cause. I hope we can all agree that we have the right to BE safe. Maybe we should leave it at that.
