I wrote about these warehouses in the context of Friday's Fifth Circuit mandatory-detention ruling over the weekend here: www.lawdork.com/p/fifth-circ...
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

I'm uninstalling my RING today.

Dystopia notwithstanding, the Ring commercial about their surveillance finding lost pets makes no sense.

Of the ~10M pets lost annually, their service finds ~500. They want Americans to commit privacy suicide for a .005% success rate???

Yeah, no thanks. Cancelling.

It was transforming the biggest NFL stage in the world into a sugar cane plantation that did it for me.

Like, the multiple layers of turning an American icon into a plantation and highlighting the history of exploitation of Black and Brown bodies by the NFL and American colonialism simultaneously?

It really pays to remind ourselves frequently that this whole immigration "crisis" is made up out of whole cloth. There was no emergency, danger or problem, only a demagogue stirring up racist grievances for political advantage.

HOLD UP. This headline from the @wsj.com is dead wrong - No one at the actual opening ceremonies thinks the US team was being booed. Come on! The CBC broadcasters & people in the stadium are all crystal clear that JD VANCE WAS BEING BOOED, not the team.

Columbia cancelled my 2024 class on Race and Media, so I decided to teach it independently anyway.

I made a conscious decision to include whiteness in discussions about race.

What we learned is how much white people have been kept in the dark about white martyrs for civil rights.

The need to continue fighting AFTER voters approved it is exhausting. Voters also voted against school vouchers by a huge margin and we ended up with those anyway. Do not stop fighting, even / especially when it's exhausting.
In 2024, voters in Arizona voted to enshrine the right to abortion in their state’s constitution.

Today’s victory is a result of the hard work of advocates, organizers, and voters who fought to protect reproductive freedom for everyone in the state.
BREAKING: An Arizona state court permanently blocked several abortion restrictions, including a law forcing patients to make two trips to a provider and a ban on telemedicine abortion.

This is a big win for reproductive freedom in the state.

it's so, so, so frustrating how they act like people applying for asylum are subject to removal proceedings. that is not the law!!!!
Just heard back from DHS on why they abruptly expedited Ramos' asylum hearing:

“These are regular removal proceedings. This is standard procedure and there is nothing retaliatory about enforcing the nation’s immigration laws. He will receive full due process."

(This is not standard procedure.)

Dear Dems, the people want you to run on abolishing ICE, not appeasing fascists.
INBOX: the Democratic National Committee is forced to delete a premature congratulatory message to former Rep. Tom Malinowski in the #NJ11 special election primary to succeed Gov. Mikie Sherrill this morning.

DSA member Analilia Mejia, running on abolishing ICE, took the lead late last night.
