Worth mentioning the great scene in Dracula A.D. 1972, when Peter Cushing as Van Helsing fills an ashtray with butts as he struggles to figure out the connection between Alucard and Dracula.
NEW ERA!

2025 was the year that I found an old copy of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, re-read it, and began binging Philip K. Dick’s fiction.

When I had read him, it had been ancillary to the movies I was into. Now it’s on his own terms.

Currently 1/2 through The Man in the High Castle.

Just venting (and maybe deleting) this is depressing. I think the world will survive the U.S. (at a cost) but the U.S. won’t quickly recover, if ever. Financial markets are now hedging *against* us, and I imagine international policy is moving in parallel. All self-inflicted.

Happy Birthday, Todd!

One of my favorite directors for, in my view, laying bare the power structures in the everyday world.
Wishing a very happy birthday to Todd Haynes, one of American independent cinema's most daring and subversive voices! On the Channel, celebrate the master stylist with his visually intoxicating POISON, disturbing psychological drama SAFE and lush, Sirkian melodrama FAR FROM HEAVEN.

Here’s Harry Nilsson singing Without You in Italian, which might just make your day a little nicer.

Just cleaning out my camera roll: cropped out the marquee of the movie that was playing and focused on the neon and foreground foliage. Not bad for a cam pic! #NoFilter

This is the most perfect Bluesky Liberal response I’ve ever seen. Cannot fathom a person might want to talk about literally anything other than trump for a few minutes of their life.
This was a pretty good one

Frankly surprised how low key the Resurrection discourse is so far, at least on social media. I think at this point, in terms of release date, I saw someone saying they were on their third Conclave viewing last year.

Not sure if the one has anything to do with the other, but I low key appreciate that Slovenian coming of age film Little Trouble Girls borrows from, through the English translation, a Sonic Youth song.

it does kind of feel like a lot of bluesky users spent four days around their extended family and immediately got on here to be like "the pizza you ate as a child sucks. the twin cities are overrated. what else. pencils should be illegal" you all are disregulated and you need to settle down!!

You ever listen to something, appreciate it well enough, but never revisit it until years later, and then it just clicks in a really big way?

Kevin Ayers’ The Unfairground just did that with me. Not sure where my head was when I first listened, but wow, what an inspired last work.
