Climate change is an affordability issue
Households face annual costs of roughly $400–$900 from climate change—mainly from disasters, higher insurance, and energy costs—with lower-income families and certain regions hit disproportionately, from @kclausing.bsky.social, Knittel, and @cwolfram.bsky.social www.nber.org/papers/w34525

Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

This Substack article is a great read. It shows how massive outside-PAC spending often fails to move the needle in elections — and that really rang true for my city council race.
Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

…and then the rest of the White House press corps pushed back against the president’s gratuitous insult aimed at one of their colleagues?

Oh wait! There’s no sign that anything like that happened!

The experiences and background of a generation of economists affects economic research and economic policies across the country.
I am not being hyperbolic when I say that how Harvard and the economics profession respond to Larry Summers will determine who makes up the next generation of economists.

Yesterday, Democratic candidates won 3 Council seats in the town of Hudson, Ohio.

The sitting Republican Council President up for reelection in 2027 resigned today.

Local elections matter. When we rebuild, we rebuild from the ground up. It’s time to rebuild, folks. In my town, we start now - with a government that works for the people not over them! 🇺🇸
Local elections matter and the three people leading our city council race are all Democrats. #1 is @profweinstein.bsky.social

Yep. We have a dark money PAC from DC spending money on attack ads against me for a city council race for our town of about 23K. 🤪
This local city council election flyer for @profweinstein.bsky.social makes me want to vote for her even more.

If we are taking in “trillion” of dollars in tariffs:

1. Why haven’t we paid down a cent of the debt?

2. Why can’t we afford to not fuck millions of people over with expiring insurance subsidies?

3. Why is none of it being used to help the abysmal job market?
