What we might refer to as a "Kavanaugh Stop"
WOW. The lead plaintiff is a Latino man who's been here legally for 24 years. He was grabbed off the street by plainclothes federal agents who didn't even ASK about his status.

He was detained overnight and only released once a supervisor realized he had been illegally arrested.

In today's parlance, you could say Norman Rockwell got woke. Which makes the Trump administration's appropriation of his work for their authoritarian project both offensive and moronic.

As someone who has closely covered New College of Florida since early 2023, there are at least a dozen problems with this article (I stopped counting at 12). The most significant issue is how the reporter condenses runaway spending to a paragraph.

An exceptionally stupid and contingent set of circumstances made Stephen Miller the most influential ideologue in the US. There is no future for the left or liberalism that does not take as a core mission ensuring he is punished for his crimes & no one as hateful as him is ever close to power again.

Anemola Hartocollis's last deep dive into the higher ed world was a fawning puff piece about Joshua Katz, the Princeton professor who slept with his students, wrote hostile essays about Black student orgs, was kicked out of the ACLS, and fired by Princeton after two misconduct investigations.

If it's a horrible hot take about higher education in the NYT, you can pretty much assume it's Anemona Hartocollis.

Great thread by Don on the person who gives us awful take after awful take.
New, from me: The NYT reporter who specializes in profiles of beleaguered right-wingers on campus went to New College...and found out that things were going ok!

As soon as I saw the headline, I had a pretty good guess who wrote it. Hartocollis is the go-to reporter to restore the reputation of campus conservatives. She led the Times campaign to push out Claudine Gay at Harvard, which was initiated by New College trustee Chris Rufo.

Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” speech *defended* conservatives.

Paraphrasing: “Some call all Republicans racist, homophobic, and otherwise bigoted, but that’s unfair to millions. It’s only half, the rest are good people.”

But the press made calling an openly bigoted campaign bigoted a scandal.
Kind of wild how the take that some of Trump's supporters were "deplorable" was some huge scandal, but regularly screaming about "radical left scum" is just a thing he'll say with no media backlash.
