Jewish. Father to two children and one dog. Husband to one wife. Attorney maligning officers for sport. Gamer/geek. One time martial artist. Dad jokes. He/him. Magneto made some valid points.
Warning: we are visiting family in Texas, which means a portion of my posting for the next week will absolutely include me complaining about this godforsaken land like the Northeastern Yank that I am.

ROTJ is, no lie, my favorite Star Wars movie, and Ian McDiarmid’s Palpatine is a big part of that. He’s such a fantastic villain.
Return of the Jedi is on TV now which is my cue to note that Sheev’s greatest line delivery in the franchise is his incredibly sarcastic fake-sad “I’m afraid the deflector shields will be quite operational when your friends arrive”, a tone he literally never strikes at any other time??? It’s so good

Took advantage of the free in flight entertainment to finally see Gunn’s Superman, and holy shit, it was great. I am not a big fan of Gunn’s, but that movie was damn near perfect.

In one of my most Dad-coded moments, I spent the last couple of nights watching the Hunt for Red October while folding laundry, and fuck it--it's a good movie!

I am also reminded that I owned the soundtrack, and clearly listened to it a billion times, because I still know it damn near by heart.

Just to add a "cool country" data point, the fucking AARP has an article on how to secure your phone when returning from international travel.

(Domestic travel seems potentially slightly less hazardous? Maybe?)
Sigh. We’re supposed to fly out to visit my sister in law tomorrow, and part of my packing routine is now apparently worrying about which electronics are safe to travel with, because this country rocks.

(Domestic travel, not international)

Every word of this thread.
Thanks for sharing this document, @rweingarten.bsky.social.

I read it, and I believe it's inexcusably inadequate and will not prepare teachers or schools to confront the very real dangers of the "A.i." products pushed by your partners, including OpenAI.

A few thoughts for your consideration...

Me: Well, I guess I’ll probably get to court/the office early, since I don’t have to put the kids on the bus or anything.

Dog: Ha ha ha…no. (Runs off into woods)

It bears emphasizing: The same admin that is attacking and defunding our universities, over what they call an antisemitism crisis, is now saying antisemitism isn't a problem at all.
This is wrong. There is widespread antisemitism in the US, AND there is also deliberate conflation by Democrats and GOP of criticism of the genocidal, apartheid Israeli government and its occupation of Palestinian lands with antisemitism––itself an ultimately antisemitic move.

Some fascist wants to use the name DEFIANT?

(As a Deep Space Nine fan, this isn't the worst thing the administration has ever done, but it is among the most offensive to me, personally.)

(Aside from the racism, antisemitism, etc. It's a joke, people)

First I’ve heard of this, but it looks neat.
Can I ask a favour?

Life has been really tough lately due to terminal family illness and I just haven’t had the spoons for decent self promotion.

the number one requirement for the next Dem president is that they are willing to look back

with a flamethrower
There's a series of things (like the ballroom, Gulf of America) that we're going to have to *undo* the moment this guy is out of office.
And yet I can already hear future Democrat presidents saying "I'm focused on the people's work, not the knucklehead stuff" and just leave this man's shit up.
The president's name was added to the sign outside the performing arts center.

Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

Taken from a British WW2 poster, the original features a WW1 German soldier at the top. I just swapped it for the Nazi soldier it had at the bottom.

Whenever I talk about antisemitism, colleagues message me and say some version of “I know lots of Jewish people and none of them seem to think this is a problem.”

No. None of them trust you enough to discuss this problem with you. That’s not the same thing as “none of them think this is a problem”
