I’m a tech worker living in NYC. Occasionally I write a silly little larp.
Pinned
same stuff but in NYC now
I don’t really have an intro post so here’s some stuff about me and things I tend to post about:
• parenting (three kids)
• socal (San Diego)
• ttrpg/larp (but who has the time)
• lefty shit (free Palestine, trans liberation, class solidarity)
I honestly wonder if he’s laying the groundwork to fill the post-Trump vacuum in the Republican Party
Ben Shapiro: "Israel did not commit a genocide in Gaza"
Gavin Newsom: "I agree with you."

If you support Gavin Newsom, even in the slightest, even if it's just his AI slop social media posts, you're signaling you're as eager to get rid of trans people as the most rabid Trumpist. You just want it done with a frown instead of a laugh.
gavin newsom says he wants to pass legislation banning trans people from playing sports in california

The @nytimespr.bsky.social has questioned my word before, when @assignedmedia.org reported on its trans-exclusionary hiring & assigning practices. Five years after I raised this issue w top editors, a year after the Assigned story published, nothing changed.

You are what your record says you are
This assertion is false: “No UK correspondent was assigned or drafted a story about the Cass report.”

I read the story as it was being written. It was placed on the budget and then pulled off. I know this bc it was my job to know what was being covered, how and by whom. Your publisher knows this.

Audience: How dead is it?

It's illegal for the president to relieve student loan debt. It's completely fine for the president to unilaterally decide to have the head of a foreign nation black bagged on foreign soil.

even consent manufacturing has switched to a just-in-time model
the reason they don’t bother to manufacture the consent beforehand is that everyone just sort of does it for them post-facto now

a small thing, but apparently my choices for the first day of constitutional law next week include shrugging, silence, or dryly explaining that the class is now purely theoretical

What’s most disappointing in reading this is the active role of the NYT science desk in spreading transphobic disinformation. Really shameful what Azeen Ghoryashi (used to respect her for covering sexual harassment in science) and Virginia Hughes did to twist science for their anti-trans campaign.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

This thread by a former NYT editor documents how the NYT came to push the Cass Review so hard over other reviews. It was dictated from the top by editors. They sidelined their own London reporter to put Azeen Ghorayshi on it.
How the nyt used the Cass report to restart its anti-trans propaganda campaign in the US:
Coverage of the report was initially assigned to a nyt UK correspondent, usual practice for a UK report. The story being prepared cited critics who called Cass a shoddy, political document that defied science
One reason the NYT has burned its credibility with trans people is that they still cite the discredited Cass report in reporting on trans healthcare. Never the German, Utah, or other systematic reviews supporting care. They also never provide the political context behind restrictions in care.
