The Mario AAA game video might be one of those silly things that actually makes huge lasting change in the industry. Like when it became socially acceptable to make fun of Marvel movies or whatever.

As a Christmas present, I posted about some fleeting visions of the Super Mario RPG sequel we never got and which eventually became Paper Mario.

(HT to @hamishsteele.bsky.social and his great @supermariomoment.bsky.social's Paper Mario ep!)

Why is commentary being "subtle" treated like some objective aim of all storytelling? People use "it was so obvious what it was trying to say" as some dig. Not being clear is not always the aim.

I am writing a horror story for Christmas (to call it a ghost story might be disingenuous) and it is really the most upsettingly horrible and disgusting thing I've written. Welcome to my twisted mind, etc.

It'll go on my patreon before the new year.

Great read about the landscape of GenAI discussion.

You need to have an understanding of what you hate.

Why is it bad? What are the material effects of it? How are devs using it? Why are they using it?

Then, you draw your own line in the sand. Use it as a guide. It helps me not lose my mind.
Weird weekend, huh? Took a crack at breaking down the whole Clair Obscur genAI situation, and its bizarre fallout, as best as possible. My main takeaway right now is that people really need to figure out exactly what they're criticizing or it's going to get messy. www.polygon.com/clair-obscur...
