If BBC News's rivals who are today damning it for bias were held to similar standards, most of them would be shut down on the spot.

Just occurred that the BBC is the most literal example of Conquest's third law in that it is actually run by a cabal of its enemies.

The BBC's senior leadership resigning en masse over one dodgy edit in one programme, simply because the right wing press demands it, tells you everything you need to know about where the power really lies in that relationship

It’s my birthday today. You know how some people ask for donations to charity on their birthdays? Well, if you so wish, you could make a donation to the actors’ trust on my behalf (via my Kickstarter obviously)
Here’s a piece about why I’m supporting them

I didn’t know until a few months ago that my grandfather had served in India or Burma during WW2. He survived.

For those that didn’t, those who came home broken, those that have served and those that still do,

A great day for the golden rule of political analysis: when the right wins it is a resounding ideological victory that humiliates the left and when the left wins it is a precarious fluke that will surely end up humiliating the left. Conservatives are power’s landlords and the left merely tenants

There's going to be so many tedious UK takes on yesterday's US Election...

So here are my tedious takes:

1. Messengers matter as much as messages
2. There's no inevitable victory for right populism

That's about it.

Nigel Farage, whose party recently put a teenager with zero work experience of any kind, in charge of running an entire county, is currently giving a speech railing against "unqualified" politicians being put in charge of Government departments

Takes me right back this one - if I can remember back that far, that's the Chancellor's Building main lecture theatre.
I did a lecture for @keeleworldaffairs.bsky.social
on the challenges confronting the UK. Watch it here, if you're bored youtu.be/BkQTGOVaFxU?.... #britishpolitics #brexit #ukintheworld

You have to praise the professionalism of the train driver who reacted to the violence on his train yesterday, the train and station crew, as well as the speed with which the police responded - 8 minutes from the first call to the first suspect being in custody.

These are works of genius.

Evil genius, but genius nonetheless
🧵I've posted them before, but here's my thread of horror/kids' TV double-bill cinema posters. Happy Halloween...

Peter Gurney wrote an excellent book - Braver Men Walk Away.

They really don't - he was one of that select band of humans prepared to walk towards a suspected bomb and attempt to defuse it. A number of his friends never survived, but he got to 93.

You don't get two George Medals for nothing.

It's the casual way some has-been invokes "terrorism" to describe putting up informational signs about the real sources of the country's wealth... Anne Robinson was a real hard-bitten journo in the 1970s & 80s. She knows what terrorism is. This is brain-rot.

I quite agree that the varying requirements for licensing for landlords is confusing as it can vary from council to council or even within councils.

Solution - licence all landlords. No exceptions.

So why does the BBC label the academic and economist Faiza Shaheen an "activist" but refuse to do the same for the former academic, turned anti-migrant activist Matt Goodwin?

Voted last week on this. Just vote to keep Restore Trust off the board. Vote to keep the @nationaltrust.org.uk looking after our heritage and telling us the truth about our history - even if that makes us feel uncomfortable. Don't let them politicise it.
🌳 As a #NationalTrust member I’ve just voted for the recommended slate to keep out the bogus, right-wing entryists of “Restore Trust”. Anything this creep wants is bad for Britain and bad for our heritage.
🌳 If you’re a member, vote Recommended Slate now: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/a...
One vital reason to vote in the National Trust elections and for the NT endorsed candidates. We can't risk the Restore Trust candidates getting any influence on it.

If the model here is that you let a private company conquer a country, co-opt local elites to exploit it for profit and govern it by force, while providing no public services and never worrying about elections, then, yes - this is a really good analogy, Mr Kruger.

Good to see @dailymail.co.uk @thetimes.com and @telegraphnews.bsky.social all delete their articles - sad the lies went up in the first place
Totally untrue garbage from @thetimes.com & @dailymail.co.uk today - smear dressed up as journalism. Some facts:
- There is no “£900 desk”
- my constituency office has Ikea desks/chairs
- we significantly underspent the new MPs allowance to set up an office
www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
Treasury minister leading budget plans spent £900 on desk
Torsten Bell, who is working with Rachel Reeves to fill a £30 billion hole in finances, also used his parliamentary expenses to claim £600 for three chairs
