I’m glad we all found each other over here! I’m a long time politics hobbyist and appreciate getting quality info from people who know. I mostly use my timeline as a news feed and rarely post.
Excellent explanation of why using AI to “learn” anything is dumb, in addition to the fact that AI answers are often just incorrect and unreliable.
So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.

This is true.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

This is narcissism masquerading as philosophy — the technophile elite are not recognizing a new soul in AI, they're falling in love with their creation, staring at their own reflection in a digital pool.

It is the ultimate in solipsism and has its roots in a pathological fear and denial of death.
can’t fucking catch a breath

Re: Platner. Read everything @jamellebouie.net writes. He is always on the nose.
i think i would honestly find this whole discourse more tolerable if people simply said what they were actually saying, which is that they think the Democratic Party is too associated with femininity (and secondarily, with black people) and that they want to correct this

In any event, to go back to my original post: Continuing to protest HARRIS over Gaza when she’s no longer in any position to do anything about foreign policy BECAUSE not enough people voted for her, instead of TRUMP, who DOES control foreign policy BECAUSE he beat her, is batshit insanity.

The United States elected Trump twice. The international order will not trust the US for decades to come, assuming the US manages to survive that long.

Exactly right.

They simply want the end product — whether it’s an actual production of art or music or the end result of hard work like a PhD — without doing the work.

It’s cheat codes all the way down.
Something that I have been thinking about with attribution of "PhD level intelligence" or "PhD level expertise" to a machine is that it reflects an increasing trend among these AI bros and their sycophants to want the products of highly skilled training without actually doing any of the work.

It absolutely makes sense that men are using AI more and seeing more job benefits, because confidently spouting nonsense in the shape of information (what LLMs are programmed to do) has always been much more of a pathway for career advancement for men than for others.
Every. Single. Story. about women not using AI as much as men portray it as bad for their future career prospects (without a shred of evidence) and a result of women being fearful little ladies rather than looking at AI's output and saying "this sucks, it's not going to help me."
For women, the increase of AI use in the workplace may affect their careers: Harvard study
Women are using AI significantly less then men and it’s going to have a major impact on their careers, according to extensive research on the topic.

A lot of people should be asking themselves whether the smart black lady who was a criminal prosecutor would still be sending weapons and support to Israel while it systematically murders starving people waiting in breadlines.

Young people (those under 45 years of age) are continuing to die of SARS-CoV-2 infections ("COVID") at a very high rate

Yet the increase in mortality among the young gets virtually no notice in the media

Why is that?

Just watched the entire Chris Hayes / Schumer interview. Chuck’s point is that a shutdown would give legal cover for the president to destroy more government faster, without the current recourse of legal action (which is working, 85% of the time).

This is something we need and is a great idea - and frankly that Dem “consultants” would probably tell him not to do. He should have kept up the “weird” line. He understands the assignment. He’s smart and he’s got the rizz - I’m glad he’s doing this.

I get the speed & brutality of massive destructive power grabs but I have yet to see anything that explains in any way how Trump to say nothing of musk are free to operate purely by malign fiat, untwisted, as sole owners of a country that had rules & cops & g-men & bench warrants til three weeks ago

We’ve talked about how moderate republicans need to push back against the right-wing MAGAs in their own group. Personally, what I’d love to see more of is good, decent WHITE MEN pushing back against the abusive, incompetent, abhorrent males the MAGA types continue to champion.
Sean Parnell's political career should have ended 3 years ago after his ex-wife testified about his vile domestic abuse

A failed Pa. Senate candidate's comeback as Pentagon spokesman is a cruel insult to abused partners and women in the military

Pa.‘s Sean Parnell as the face of Trump’s Pentagon is another assault on women | Will Bunch
Domestic abuse allegations that derailed Sean Parnell's Pa. Senate race make him a perfect fit for a high-level Trump post.

The US constitution was built to avoid centralized power and tyranny.

It is not the constitution that is failing us.

It is the partisans who have promised to uphold the constitution that are failing us.

We will soon be at a point where people - governmental personnel, heads of departments - will need to just stop doing any of the dumb shit he is telling them they “have” to do.

This is from the NYT morning email.

Absolutely sickening how they try to retcon their hand in making this day possible. “The Editorial Board” tried to warn us! But we did this to ourselves!

“Institutions may succumb if they don’t do their jobs.”

Enraging and disgusting.
