Hyvinvointivaltiolle heipat!

HS:n tiedot | Alustava sopu: Ensi hallituksen pitää säästää jopa 8–11 miljardia euroa
Eduskuntapuolueiden niin sanottu velkajarrutyöryhmä on päässyt alustavasti sopuun ensi vaalikauden tasapainotusurakasta.

"No fan of Iran regime but I have concerns over unilateral action, bypassing UN and international law"

Well, yes, that is an understatement.
Fox News correspondent: “It's a bit surreal seeing the juxtaposition of President Trump presiding over the Board of Peace while preparing for war”

I agree with the headline. No fan of Iran regime but I have concerns over unilateral action, bypassing UN and international law

Voi hyvä luoja, voi jumal auta!

Pelk. ensi vaalikaudella leikataan 7,4–8,3 mrd €.

Oh no! The far right and fascism are on the rise, what should we do?

Maybe if we appeased them some more, didn't call them what they are and if we said those opposing them are just as bad or even worse that will make them go away!

It's not because it's never worked before that it won't this time!

It’s plausible that we’re at the brink of war with Iran and you can open up The New York Times app on your phone and scroll and scroll and scroll before you find anything about it.
US-Iran war(?)🧵

Over the last few hours there are so many signs of iminnent US strike in Iran that one would be forgiven to think someone in DC wants us to think it's coming. There's already more aerial capabilities in the area than back in the 12 day war in June (see INSS map). 1/

The “True Finns” party, like most populist far right parties, is mostly composed of incompetents. So they have to reuse a serial groomer of teenage girls as a minister after a resignation of their minister of social affairs and health.

Well, at least he will be thinking about the children.

If the left isn’t about preserving and building the very (social and technological) infrastructure that AI is preying on, it’s not a political project worth undertaking.
Instead of "the left isn't paying enough attention to these machine gods" they're claiming to build, perhaps we should write an article about how effective altruists brand themselves "left", ask who is writing these articles, and trace their cults and sources of funding.

Today's Economist/YouGov Poll: Is Donald Trump racist?
41% of Republicans have No Opinion.

Zappa ran for President once. Especially after reading @bradleymorgan.bsky.social 's book I am convinced that he would have made a terrific President - he had a good grasp of the social dynamics in American politics and society.

Aina ihmettelen, miksi Salossa on niin paljon puuta odottamassa. Katsoin joskus mapsista, ja suht lähellä on yksi saha. Mutta kai sitten se puutavara kuljetetaan sinne?

Onko joku selitys?

Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast about metaphor as a linguistic and cognitive phenomenon, not just a literary device.

I think I see metaphor as considerably more integral to (and hence frequent in) language than Kensy does, though: there are often many metaphors hidden in a single everyday sentence.
We can all agree that metaphors are nice. But are they also sometimes necessary? Could there be ideas we simply can't approach literally, thoughts we can't think without metaphors?

Just one of the topics discussed in our latest episode, w/ @sflusberg.bsky.social!

As with most things tech, the certainty of an economic system designed to impose the bad has to be weighed against the possibility of the good :-)

We may get some of the good things, but we will certainly get most of the bad things.
