Chicago day care worker detained by immigration agents released after community support
Diana Santillana Galeano's detention at a day care was unusual even under "Operation Midway Blitz," which has resulted thousands of immigration arrests since early September.

Fortunately, PTSD is a condition whose treatment is covered under the essential health benefits that remain in place thanks to the progress of the Affordable Care Act.
House Speaker Mike Johnson says he still has “PTSD” from the GOP’s failed effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act during President Trump’s first term.

Now, the party is about to plunge back into the tricky policy debate that once cost them seats in the House.
As health insurance bills rise, Republicans are still seeking an Obamacare alternative
Premiums for millions of Americans in red and blue states are expected to more than double on average next year unless Congress finds a solution.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

It isn't improving over time.

Even among the GOP, just 45% (!) approve of the job the Trump admin is doing on the Epstein case."

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

This is essentially the same story told by the Panama Papers of 2016, the Paradise Papers of 2017 & the Pandora Papers of 2020.

Nearly 7TB of data on released on wealthy people, mostly men, doing terrible things at scale & facing no consequences:barely any prosecutions, miniscule # of convictions.
The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

This is a great thread. Us Xennials had to make our own fun and that included being primed with Apple2e gaming that led into Mac Classic use and then BBS moderation. I loved and still love being the curator of my own online experiences. I *hate* having things done for me on a visceral level.
basically believe that this mostly depends on when you got Properly Online - before a certain cut-off your normal internet experience was high agency/high effort, but it eventually became low agency/low effort, and it's impossible to create a social media experience that caters to both groups
yes I think @youngvulgarian.marieleconte.com has talked about this, it's deeply alienating to find out that the vast majority of people do not want the curated timeline / engagement / discussion version of social media that I find to be the only good version of the experience

Remember how Elon said that Trump was in the Epstein files and that’s why he won’t let them be released and he apparently knew all about that but then decided to be friends with Trump again a week later so he just deleted that tweet and doesn’t mention it and no one regards that as a bit of an issue

A thing I wrote about Schumer when Mamdani won the primary and kind of thinking about it a lot the last two days
Worth reminding everyone that the current highest ranking Democrat in America openly admits he bases his decisions on what he thinks an imaginary person would want and today he and most of his allies are struggling to understand how somebody like Mamdani won by talking to voters who actually exist
