Some more irl friends are coming over from other places, so I just want to remind everyone that there is no algorithm here and so your feed is going to feel empty till you start following some of the epic posters.
How when the movie was filmed, the U.S. Navy had been devestated at Pearl Harbor, had just lost the Philippines, was facing an as yet undefeated Imperial Japanese Military. How Western and Central Europe was entirely in the hands of the Fascists and fascist armies were still progressing eastward.
I think about how when they sang La Marseillaise they were still in the midst of a war they did not know they were going to win.
You ever stop and think about CASABLANCA? You ever stop and think about "Welcome back to the fight, this time, I know our side will win?" You ever think about a bar full of people defiantly singing La Marseillaise, played by a soundstage full of Jewish refugees? You ever think about CASABLANCA??????

"the elite of the antebellum South were degenerate gamblers who financed their lifestyles with industrialized rape and would kill you for pointing this out" is a straightforwardly accurate statement

sometimes you'll learn that, like, Napoleon did legal reforms which are the basis for many countries legal systems today. with slavery you learn that men would rape people and enslave their own children

slavery is one of the rare things historically where the more you learn about it the more you realize your initial assessment was correct and it was in fact one of the most evil things ever to occur

Happy birthday to one of the greatest, Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery, he didn't know his actual birthday, but chose to celebrate it on this day.

Please read his books and essays; please teach your children his story when they are old enough to understand.

Meta thinks now is a great time to launch facial recognition surveillance tech in their creepy glasses because EFF will be too distracted by fascism to notice.

We noticed.

Seven Billion Reasons for Facebook to Abandon its Face Recognition Plans
Meta’s analysis that it can avoid scrutiny by releasing a privacy invasive product during a time of political crisis is craven and morally bankrupt. It is also dead wrong.

Question: there's been three falls on a skater's first big jump so far. Are they trying and failing to do quad axels or were these just failed triples?

(To be clear I understand this is all insanely hard, I just know quads have become the new bar to meet for the men)

But then in the intervening decades before you try to RUN FOR FEDERAL OFFICE nobody in your life at any point said “hey man that’s some Nazi shit, you should get that taken care of”??? Or never watched a movie and went “huh, that SS officers hat has my tattoo on it, I wonder what that’s about”

So yes, reclaim that authority, but more importantly, we need an actual, specific, intentional, unambiguous federal climate law/laws and a bunch of money behind them to move way faster.

Since *every* CAA action by EPA was litigated to death, any attempt to reinstate those actions and findings etc would take a while and face more litigation. So they should go ahead and do that, but also, in 2029, we will be 21 years from 2050, and can't afford to dick around for 15 years waiting.
