Ahmed al Ahmed immigrated from Syria to Australia in 2006. (I’ve seen it reported elsewhere that he was from Idlib in Syria.) He is now an Australian citizen, and this report confirms he is Muslim.

I was up in the middle of the night watching Australian news coverage.
They were asking Australians on the street for their reactions, and one of them said that, prior to today, they had only seen mass shootings through American TV footage.
What a shameful and terrible legacy our country has.
