Facts
In a way this is historical, you can get a feel for what it was like to be in court during the last years of a king slowly going mad from mercury poisoning or syphilis - I imagine those people frequently got invited to an airing of the grievances

Ways and Means by Roger Lowenstein is the book on financing the Civil War that I didn't know I needed. It's excellent and has that pace and drive you'd expect from a good military history but it's about bonds and taxes and such. Really excellent. Can't recommend enough.
