100 year old autistic, professional recluse and very occasional synthwave producer. Buddie. Moments of levity actually cause me pain. No opinions my own, even the ones I say are.

James Bond is a pseudonym for a series of different agents. Sorted. Youse can all get back to drawing anatomical diagrams of Thomas The Tank Engine now.

Three different things with the same suffix are different? Oh shit, I'd assumed a Geranium was the same thing as Uranium.

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

Yeah but some people on here like The One Show not having an ad break, so there's nothing we can do about it.
The BBC has shown deep, systemic bias against Palestinian lives and has repeatedly demonstrated bias against transgender rights, writes Ellie Gomersall ✍️

Bend It Like Beckham has a bit where it's implied anti-Irish racism doesn't exist (and that it's hilarious to think that it does). I'm hoping that the author apologises and her next film is called Bend It Like The Birmingham 6.

In the famous Bee Gees classification system (Hair and Beard, Hair and No Beard, Bald and Beard), Robin was "Hair and No Beard".
As I’ve seen this confused a few times, please note that Robin Gibb was a much-beloved member of the Bee Gees, whilst Robbie Gibb is the BBC board member who also, totally coincidentally, was editorial adviser in the set-up of GB News.

I know, Bee Gees, GBeebies, a bit confusing…

Personally I'd be pleased to see BBC News disappear entirely. To argue, as many do, that British politics or our news environment would be so much worse without the BBC you have to explain why British politics and news environment is so very bad with the BBC.

Half my TL have turned into FBPEs because the BBC is being criticised. Happy to throw minorities under the bus for an advert-free Newsnight.

Counterpoint. Fuck the BBC.
📢 Let's all resolve to listen to/watch more BBC output. The gloves are off now and, although the BBC isn't perfect, public service broadcasting must be defended. Every minute we spend with the BBC instead of commercial rivals will be striking a blow at all the right-wing ghouls who now threaten us.✊

The article makes good points about news journalism generally, but it's a fact that the BBC's news department is stuffed with extreme Tories, pro-Israel fanatics and TERFs. Inverse Hanlon's Razor applies here (never let malicious actors off the hook by assuming they must just be stupid).
The big problem with the BBC isn't so much a bias against left or right, but a bias against understanding: chrisdillow.substack.com/p/being-a-ne... There's little chance that a change of DG will remedy this.

There's an irony in the fact that as the Tory party has fallen apart so its grip on the BBC has tightened. Farage & co have always been happy with the Corporation: the disproportionate coverage, the lack of real scrutiny etc. It's the Tories who remain its implacable foe.

It is now routine in the media to occlude 2017 entirely from political history. This isn't simply because it undermines the narrative of fragmentation and the replacement of class interests with "identity", but because it was an election that the media spectacularly called wrong.

I’d settle for media outlets that don’t e.g. pretend to be terrified that the police are racistly banning fascist football fans to curry favour with Muslims, because doing that is a handy distraction from the genocide everyone has either been ignoring or enabling. Doesn’t seem like a big ask.

Once every 20 years or so, the director-general of the BBC is forced to resign for being insufficiently rightwing. Alastair Milne in 1987. Greg Dyke in 2004. Tim Davie in 2025. The great irony is that the BBC was in all cases profoundly biased towards established power. But just not biased enough …
