The latest in my occasional series of photos from outings with my son: autistic teenager enthusiastic about radio dishes visits a very special one. He needed time to take in the sheer scale of the Lovell Telescope @jodrellbank.bsky.social before happily exploring the neighbouring exhibitions. 😊

The ongoing decline of traditional media is very sad to see. Agree or disagree with its ideological stance, the Economist was a bastion of fact-based reportage not too long ago, but with apologies to Messrs Norman and Bart, fings ain't wot they used t'be.
This is *stunningly* disingenuous, and the fact that Singal continues to enjoy a career writing at the highest levels about a topic that he either unwilling or incapable of discussing honestly is such an indictment of the Anglo-American prestige media.

A typical day's sightseeing for an autistic teenager. He might be uninterested in St Paul's, but the wall my lad is leaning on forms one edge of his favourite London fountain. He's giving himself time to get used to the sound of the water flow before he starts looking at it. 🥰

Neurodivergent people have always been there (we just weren't 'looking' before)

theneuroscienceofeve...

The idea that the neurodiversity is a 'recent development' and hasn't been shaping all of human society forever is as wrong as it is unhelpful

My latest post explains

Neurodivergent people have always been there (we just weren't 'looking' before)
Many believe neurodivergence (autism, ADHD etc.) is 'new'. But it's been around and has shaped society for as long as humans have existed. We just didn't recognise it for what it was.

Discussed last night why 6th Jan is traditionally the only day to take down Xmas decs rather than just the deadline. @davidallengreen.bsky.social explains why. #12daysofChristmas

(We didn't put any up this year to help my autistic son cope with the disruptions to his normal routine. It worked. 🥰 )
Remember to take your Christmas decorations down by the end of Twelfth Night.

Here is a post about why - and about other things too.

My holiday donations go to Crisis and refugee charities, because everyone deserves a home. But I use @wikipedia.bsky.social most days and, particularly in the era of plutocrat media capture, support it when I can. It's far from definitive but offers an unrivalled free launchpad for further reading.
Wikipedia is a fantastically valuable public good. If you're able, please donate something.
If you've never donated to Wikipedia, now's the time. Elon Musk is attacking it because it's one of the only sources of honest, curated information that he can't control.

For the Humble Bundles I get my usual cut of whatever money goes to the publisher, which is a perfectly good percentage. Be that as it may, if you move the slider so that First Book, the charity, gets more or all of your purchase price, I am not going to complain. I am doing fine.
Do you actually get compensated fairly for this? I've always wondered if it screws over content creators/game studios when doing this
