i think fundamentally the story of 2024 and the reaction to this admin is a bunch of people's whose entire lives are predicated on stability necessary for liberal democratic capitalism to function standing in a circle holding hands chanting "worse things aren't possible"
I will go to my deathbed, which god willing will be in like seven decades, absolutely hating these people for their sheer hubris and decadence. We had the world, and they are risking it all because they can't see past the bridge of their nose shoved up their ass
The thing that's astounding is they don't seem to understand how what they're exactly playing at, their cowardice actually increases their personal risk! Their entire being is predicted on the stability and order that they are choosing to compromise!

Political violence disproportionately hurts people with less power, not people with more power. Political violence will disproportionately hurt people of color and women and LGBTQ people. It’s not fair, but that’s the way it works. Celebrating political violence means at best indifference to that.
Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

If the president gives unlawful orders, it’s the responsibility of military officers to refuse those orders.

It’s imperative the movement maintains non-violent discipline so the military will side with the constitution and the people. We can win if we stand together.

there are few worse/lazy headline constructions than “tensions flare as ____” because it answers zero questions.

who’s tense? who’s making them flare? what’s the difference between each side’s ways of expressing their tension? who has more power in the situation?

Trump take chemical safety (and some of YouTube’s best accident investigation videos) @mtsw.bsky.social
Trump wants to shut down the Chemical Safety Board which has a unique role investigating chemical plant incidents.

The result: more chemical releases, worker deaths and community pollution.

All to save $14 million. And to make the chemical industry happy

I hate this about a Republican presidency. I don’t want to have to know how bonds work, what ideological biases a circuit judge has, what the removal process for federal workers is. I want a Democratic president where I can debate whether it’s lame to play Pokémon Go on business trip.

Just saw this Elon post from yesterday and it really feels like a glimpse into an alternative universe. It's so easy to imagine a world where Musk wasn't algorithmically radicalized and audience captured. Instead, he's deeply unpopular and on the hook for...a Wisconsin Supreme Court loss? Wild.

I hate that my easiest answer is all the vehicles in War Thunder — how to play them and how they differ from their real-life counterparts.

I’d save that for the 11p-6am stretch though, and probably start with a photo/video 101 lecture.
What would you talk about for 19 hours?

I’m sorry. You can all be mad at journalists for this or whatever. And maybe in some cases it’s deserved. But this is a high-risk profession that’s dying. There’s little support for most working journalists who still have jobs.

When you blame “the media,” blame executives. Not workers.

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

well, that's one way to make spaceflight as safe as commercial aviation...
It will be my honor to remake US passenger aviation in the image of SpaceX, which hasn’t had a rocket explode in over three weeks.

Folks we are a creative people, we’re also warped in our own twisted ways there’s a psychological terror and pressure we are not applying to these fools. Why aren’t we doing that? Why are we not just relentlessly mindfucking them?

So wait, does he just think he can 'delete' congressionally-mandated programs by removing their entries from OPM and the Treasury's databases or something?
Apparently, allowing Americans to file their tax returns for free is a bad thing. A big gift to the Big Tax lobby and a big middle finger to Americans.

Well, when you put it like that…
You say: they shutdown USAID.

You mean: they illegally broke in to a secure facility over a weekend, hijacked sensitive data on vulnerable people and US businesses, destroyed property Americans paid for, cut off resources for sick and hungry families, and fired Americans across the country.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO
