Tennessee naturalist, moss gardener, and occasional DJ. Information is my love language. She/her.
As we're entering moss appreciation season (it'll be green and glorious all winter) here's another thing to appreciate - moss can survive in space! Spores placed outside the ISS for more than 9 months still germinated when they were brought back to earth. Moss is magic. ✨

Wow. Excellent writeup on the white-tailed deer's fascinating digestive tract, and a solid scientific basis for why you shouldn't feed them - a carb-rich pile of corn can be so disruptive to their systems in the winter that it can actually kill a deer within 72 hours.
It's that time of year! The time when deer guts start to undergo a magical transformation!

(Also the time of year many well-intentioned people accidentally mess the whole thing up, leading to dead deer!)

Last summer we went to DC to see Justice at a 6k person venue and had our minds blown by the best light show we’ve ever seen, and I walked out wondering how on earth all those lights could make for a profitable tour.

Okay just checked and I had the “rude” filter on by default! If this is the filtered version of y’all’s rudeness I’m dying to know what kind of quality snark I’ve been missing
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

I would buy and fix up all the abandoned amusement parks
lets say a wizard has cursed you with a lot of money. you are going to become permanently brain damaged simply by being in possession of so much money. the only way out of it is to spend a lot of money on something ridiculous and not at all useful

what would you buy to break the curse?

This is my regular reminder to everyone that jstor is open to the general public now; a free account there will give you access to 100 papers a year.
regrettably if you try to point this out online you'll get yelled out by 79208 journalists going OH SO YOU WANT JOURNALISTS TO STARVE??? even if you're, say, a journalist yourself, and point out that while there are clearly no easy answers, the status quo isn't exactly working for society

These commercials are driving me insane every single one feels like watching an adult man pretending to be hard while basically saying “I’m daddy’s little boy!! Look at me daddy!!!!”
Heavily Democratic Nashville was gerrymandered to elect Republicans to Congress. So as Trump is at -15 nationally, we get GOP primary guys out-culting one another. One calls himself "the conservative warrior Trump needs." (Not Tennessee, or Nashville!) Another promises to serve Trump. Crazy shit.

I was completely convinced today was the last day of the month so I cranked on some work over the weekend to meet today’s deadline only to realize at approximately 11:45pm last night that it’s Tuesday, in fact, that’s the 30th. Does that mean I can just stay in bed today?
