Folks, it was just a matter of time before this Twitter clone turned into Twitter. Even before Elon, it was a trash fire. I was already thinking of winding down my presence, here. An ICE-friendly social-media platform is not for me.

If you’re going to be required to use a digital robot butler then surely you want that to mean that it will do work while you’re frolicking in meadows or relaxing with novels and tea, not that it will do work while you somehow go out and find other, harder work to do even more of, for the same pay
It’s funny how SV went from 4-hour work week to 9-9-6 rather than the reverse with the rise of AI agents

These crisis PR strategies: building a pseudo-feminist narrative around an alleged predator, relying on access journalists, and turning to partisan influencer "news" sources over actual journalists when that fails, are consistent across each of these cases. spitfirenews.com/p/epstein-jo...

and it's *so little* money

for us, the difference between "good headspace, able to get life done and create things" and "total burnout" is like $800/mo

most artists aren't asking to be rich. seriously, just make life a little fucking easier and we'll handle the rest and keep you entertained.
this is why the whole “oh, suffering creates great art” thing is bullshit

you know what’s conducive to art? a roof over your head and food on the table

you know what isn’t? stressing out over where the fuck the rent money is going to come from
I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

Everybody! I just found something. I'm sure lots of people knew, but I didn't, so here it is:

Paste a link into your post.

Watch it generate a linked preview of the page, but one that *doesn't take up more characters*.

Delete the link *text*.

The preview link remains.

Whole Foods AI stores were entirely Indians watching on video feeds and ringing you up. Waymos have live human support partially driving them. And the AI that has “Hollywood shaking in its boots” is…stock footage. With face replacement.

Yeah. We are sooooooo cooked, AI bros. Call me when it works.

Question for Mac geeks: I left my Mac on a plane. (NEVER use the seatback pocket.) Bought new Mac. Restored from TM backup. Used it for 2 weeks, kept backing up. Airline found my old Mac (hurray!) Is there any way to get my old Mac to take over the TM backup from the NEW mac without a wipe/restore?

Someone making $100,000 a year pays lower income taxes in BC than in Alberta.

ALBERTA.

That's nuts. The BCNDP should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for the fact that BC is racing Alberta to the bottom, and winning.
B.C. personal income tax increased for first $50,363 earned starting in 2026 | Urbanized
There are some notable changes in the Government of British Columbia’s 2026 budget relating to the provincial personal income tax.

But the BCNDP have made a different fiscal decision.

a fucking pedophile sexually abused nearly every prospective and actual Olympian gymnast for over two decades, and the political discourse is hyper-fixated on the hypothetical unfairness of trans girls competing with cis girls
1 reason why I get so angry at anti-trans "safety in women's sports" people is NONE of them do SHIT or say ANYTHING about actual safety in womens sport. There are ongoing histories and challenges and abuses in sport, and folks are more than welcome to pay attention, and give a damn. But they don't.

Not only that, voters find attempts to make these issues more salient to be extremely off putting, as seen in Virginia
The reason I wrote this essay was to push back against the argument that trans issues were salient for the average voter. They're not.

The panic among some progressives about this polling is disproportionate to the real electoral impact.

My wife said AI in Outlook has started to send summary notes about emails and the summaries are longer than the emails and full of wrong info lol. "I got a 5 word email from my coworker that said 'Lunch will be at 1' and the summary said 'Your lunch meeting is now at 11' lmaoo
you know what would be a great way to market the AI technology you really want me to use but which I have thus far refused to touch?

what if you used it to imply that my emails are poorly written, in real time as I'm writing them, even though I'm consciously trying to avoid sounding like AI?

Love that AI, a thing we hate and don’t want, steals everything, ruins everything, shittifies everything. Drinks our water, plagiarizes our art, pisses all over our information fidelity, drives kids to suicide, serves the right-wing, and fucks up our devices and services. Good job, techbros!
