Folks, it was just a matter of time before this Twitter clone turned into Twitter. Even before Elon, it was a trash fire. I was already thinking of winding down my presence, here. An ICE-friendly social-media platform is not for me.

Labour really thinks we are all stupid.

Here’s the Digital ID push again, this time to ‘protect children’.

They will need to prove their age to access Social media, Chatbots and VPNs.

Which means EVERYONE will need to prove their age. Meaning your privacy is over.

When Ds are back in charge, they have to change everything. No moderate half-measures. Just relentless razing of the corrupt institutions that enriched the worst people in the world and propped up fascism.

A few suggestions...

All the discourse about Manga dominance of US/UK comic shelves seems to miss out survivorship bias.

The Manga we get isn't randomly selected.

The success isn't in the Manga formula (altho' much better digital presentation).

It's cos we get the best of western friendly and don't see the worst.

"Surge pricing via facial recognition" - any dystopian sci-fi novel warned us of this torment nexus, or is this a new and exciting man-made horror beyond comprehension?
(5/11) Walmart, Whole Foods, and Kohls are switching to electronic shelf labels that can display dynamic prices. Kroger deployed them with Microsoft AI—a setup a 2024 Senate inquiry warned could enable “surge pricing” via facial recognition. (Kroger claims it will only lower prices.)

The entire UK diplomatic budget is about £1.4 billion a year. That’s pretty much precisely 0.1% of government spending.

BBC World Service is about £0.25 billion (it should be higher), or 0.02%.

These are rounding errors on rounding errors. Double each and public expenditure wouldn’t twitch.

Mad.

What on earth is going on?

NO MORE GIVING HUGE CORPORATIONS ALL OF OUR PERSONAL INFO JUST TO PARTICIPATE!!

This has to be a major part of how we move forward and should be a major part of any leftist movement.

I can’t stress this enough!! It has to be taken as seriously as the fight against AI.

When I saw so many open source projects move to having discords over having a forum, my engagement with a lot of them went down.

I noticed less documentation being written, and less info I could search. Why would I want to ask to joint a discord server just to tinker with a repository?

No matter where people move to from discord, one thing that MUST not be apart of the feature set is discord being used like public forums used to be used for sharing knowledge.

We have to go back to public forums for that. Not a new chat platform.

The reason these people have been attacking scholars and universities is that they stand in the way of the ahistorical bullshit they need to spew in order to construct white Christian nationalism
The Rubio speech really is appalling, and if you haven’t read it yet, you should.

I appreciate that the internet has made everyone into an amateur investigative journalist. But actual investigative work requires aggressively checking, double-checking, and trying to poke holes in your own work — not just rushing to publish because you want to believe it's true.

Millions of us signed into platforms decades ago for the novelty. We stayed for the community.

Right before the pandemic, I met a friend I met on the Kindred Spirits listserv in 1997! 29 years!

We've lost the plot! It used to be that you'd log into chat for escapist fun, not to be traumatized.

Some of us didn't hop online in the 90s or the 2000s to get rich and famous, man.

Some of us hopped online in the 90s and 2000s 'cause it was FUN to chat with people all over the world... for free!

Baby, we grew up when it cost a zillion dollars to call long distance! We had pen pals at school!
