85 years ago, Charlie Chaplin delivered his famous speech at the end of his first film with dialogue - The Great Dictator.

He spoke these timeless words as Nazis rose to power, and the drums of war beat in Europe, echoing across the world.

As relevant, and necessary to hear, today as ever

"We have lost our ability to contain this with the immunity that we have," Albrecht said, urging people to get vaccinated.

The vaccination rate among students in Spartanburg County is 90% overall, which is lower than the 95% threshold needed to prevent measles.”
Measles is spreading fast in S.C. Here's what it says about vaccine exemptions
More than 550 people have contracted measles in Spartanburg County, S.C., in a fast-growing outbreak. Like a majority of U.S. counties, nonmedical exemptions to school vaccination are also rising.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee made it clear that while a laureate can physically give away the medal or other physical items, that does not make someone else a Nobel Peace Prize winner. The official title and recognition remain tied to the person the committee originally selected.

On the evening on Jan. 17, 1961, outgoing President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered his famous farewell address to the nation. In it, he warned against the undue influence of the military-industrial complex…but said much more as well. Take 15 minutes today to watch or listen to the entire speech.

Global health threats are inextricably linked to geopolitics. The direction the world is taking is now highly unpredictable, but one thing is absolutely certain to me: the only real winners will be pathogens. The US administration is now a force multiplier for infectious disease.

A brief, shining time
One of my sons died of a disease that later became vaccine preventable. But now that and other vaccines have been struck from the recommended list for children.

Normally I dislike country music, but Johnny Cash is definitely the exception. I actually saw him live once in the early 1990s. June Carter Cash performed with him.
