I love discovering a surrealist painter for the first time. Have you *seen* this Vasko Taškovski guy?
Surrealist painting of a brown horse with flaming golden hair and some sort of alien armour fighting a weird lil beardy, tentacle-y guy who just hatched out of an egg. Surrealist painting of a weird structure made out of a mix of bird-like parts, bones, branches, shells, rocks and who knows what else, standing on a beach with bright blue sea and sky in the background. The key features include an eye near the middle and what appears to be a human woman, dwarfed by the structure, leaning against one of its spiky... legs? Surrealist painting of Icarus, legs stretched out to the right and turning into islands, torso represented by an egg breaking open to let out blasts of white light or force which form the wings, and a head that's a uniform white sphere, maybe a moon. Surrealist painting of a whole lot of elements that we've seen in the other paintings, notably islands, architecture, shells, ovals and the piercing blue sky, all spiralling around a central point.

This was a really fun chat with Thomas, and it took us two tries, with a month in between because a power cut caused Thomas to lose the first half of the interview! I'm kinda glad we got to chat again though, a lot happened in the month in between that helped me better articulate some things.

What perfect album came out when you were 16?

I was completely unaware of any of these in 2003, except maybe Hail to the Thief, which I still didn't buy until I was at uni.

I saw this movie as part of a weird movie marathon Kevin Smith put on in Red Bank New Jersey 20 years ago it seems. It’s a great doc and it deserves to live.

Malcolm Ingram is trying to re-release Small Town Gay Bar, a really valuable documentary from the 00s about...well, small town gay bars in Mississippi. They have to rebuy all music rights etc.

Some of the most fun I had doing #FriendsAtTheTable postcards for #Palisade came from coming up with this medieval calendar with @notquitereal.bsky.social, where The Paint Shop did a historical/cultural back-fill on the Fabreal Duchy as part of The Adagio. Loved revisiting The Saints, too.

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

In a significantly weirder case, "Sleeping Lady with Black Vase" is a 1928 oil painting by Róbert Berény. It was lost in WWII, and considered looted by the Nazis and likely destroyed afterwards in the chaos... until someone recognized it as set dressing in the movie "Stuart Little."

Coming back with yet another #Palisade Post Card for #FriendsAtTheTable. My 3rd card of 6 was centered on The Figure in Concrete & The Broken Spoke, framed as one of many Alise Breka novels. The pulp novel framing, here, was designed by @badbucket.bsky.social, and was used on multiple cards.
The Figure in Concrete stands on a rocky outcrop. Russian Sage grows out of the rock and out of the Figure's body. The rock and the figure's belly are pierced by great rusted chains. The figure is breaking of the of the chains, sparks flying. Behind them stands a mech carrying an upright glaive. Their shield is massive. It's shadows are purple. In the pastel sky is shattering glass, The Witch in glass smiles on the left side of the glaive, the Devil's Two Front Teeth on the right. Chimera's Lantern is lit. The previous image is inset into a weathered pulp novel cover template. The title reads "Phyrric Shale" and it is by Alise Breka. A quote below reads "Tears falling on stone." It is home printed my RadiantAngel, the label reads.
