Living in a two loom garage with an attached house in the Cascadia bioregion. Mostly things related to textiles, and lots of photos of Victor Velluto, an elegant goofball Russian Blue cat.
Pinned
Victor is here to remind you to breathe, maybe take a little nap, and after that shove your favorite furry mouse toy under the fridge
Fingers crossed that some time in the coming year the books I ordered from England LAST JULY will make it through tariffs purgatory (though I’m not optimistic)
BREAKING NEWS: The U.S. Supreme Court just struck down the president’s unlawful tariffs under IEEPA, siding with Oregon and our multistate coalition.

Very helpful article. The old looms that some of us use are essentially miniature post and beam structures so this resonates.
I keep encountering folk who doubt dendrochronology gives the construction date of buildings. They think it only gives a felling date or there is danger of dating reused timbers. Once again, here is a piece on how and why tree-ring dating works

What better time is there for sorting through canning jar rings than a rainy day in February? I managed to discard a good 4 or 5 dozen of the rustier rings, and I think I still have many more rings than jars...

The wonderful thing about Tyggers
Is Tyggers are burning bright
Their tops are made out of rubber
In the forest of the night

What bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Immortal hand or eye
Did frame the most wonderful thing about Tyggers,
Their fearful symmetry!

This is important for those of us who use social media to have scientists explain stuff to us. When I left Twitter in '23 this was something I really missed
Bluesky is the new science Twitter, new study by @whysharksmatter.bsky.social and Julia Wester concludes!

"Results show that for every reported professional benefit that scientists once gained from Twitter, scientists can now gain that benefit more effectively on Bluesky than on Twitter."
