Living in a two loom garage with an attached house in the Cascadia bioregion. Mostly things related to textiles, and lots of photos of Victor Velluto, an elegant goofball Russian Blue cat.
What better way to memorialize a terrible year than by making knit Christmas tree ornaments shaped like lemons? That year I made a bunch of these for family and friends. I live to confuse future historians 🧶

I don't post #TenMinuteMerlin much during the winter, but this is my list of usual suspects. If I'd recorded a little earlier, Wood ducks would have been in the mix. I will never get tired of having TWO kinds of chickadees

I’m a big fan of these magnetic glasses hangers. The last time I ordered some they only had the version with rhinestones, so that’s what I got. This means that on sunny days I THROW RAINBOWS. Highly recommend.

(Okay, no, I *don’t* wear much jewelry around the house)

On #Caturday Victor would like to remind you that all boxes must be cat-inspected before being broken down and set out for recycling

Nice finish after a rainy start here in late autumn Cascadia

My compost bin grew this squash* for me. This evening I split it open, scooped out the seeds and baked it until quite soft. Then I filled the cavity with chili and let me tell you, that was a mighty fine meal.

*I grew up calling this acorn squash, but out here it’s call danish squash

This is the traffic camera closest to my parents’ place. I like to tell them that I’m watching them and I HAD BETTER NOT SEE YOUR SUBARU UNTIL THE ROAD IS CLEAR

Wearing purple-footed stockings puts a certain spring in one’s step. Knit some years ago from a KnitPicks fingering weight yarn on #1 needles (I think.) Very comfortable! 🧶

They were a promo offering by Big Top peanut butter, which became Jif in 1955.

We had these at home when I was a kid. We used them for ice cream and pudding and I thought they were very elegant. I got mine at various yard sales over the years. I still have my ice cream in them.

For #caturday Victor says you need to relax and look at things from a different perspective

I mostly think of Cascadia as an interesting theoretical framework but golly, some days the West Coast Health Alliance feels essential for survival.

New pin cushion, made from a bit of corduroy that's been in my scraps bin for close to 30 years and a bit of ribbon left over from a length I bought one day when I was having a Horrible Day at Work and needed something to cheer me up. I find hanging pin cushions remarkably handy.

7:45 am in a heavy fog, well before the first mug of tea: Owl or owl-shaped clump of dead leaves? By 11:15 am I got a good look at this barred owl, but couldn't get a decent photo of it. The owls get very chatty at this time of year and I've been hearing them lately at night.

Hello #DressHistory Bluesky! Can somebody explain to me the difference between womens shoes and pumps at this period? (1771) If you can point me to illustrations that would be fabulous!

Yes but why 32? What is the match arcana that requires 32 and not 30 or 36?

I dunno, I think he still looks like a goofball. Or a space alien. #caturday

Taking advantage of the mild weather to open the garage door and weave by natural light.

I’ve cut Victor’s food back a bit so that he can keep his youthful figure and this is his “I’m so disappointed in you” look. #caturday

I am happy to report that the annual Feast of the Defrosting of the Deep Freeze has concluded successfully.

One final update on the sewing machine, which was manufactured in 1942. The new owner repaired the base, rebuilt the motor, replaced the wiring, and has actually sewn a seam. These vibrating shuttle machines have a very distinctive sound. 🪡

Victor has taught me that when he sinks his claws into my knee it’s time for me to stop whatever I’m doing and have a nap with him. He’s remarkably persistent about this.

👻 Prank "spirit" photograph. From my collection. Apparently Boston ghosts are too good for plain white sheets and wear lace curtains instead. #HappyHalloween
