Living in a two loom garage with an attached house in the Cascadia bioregion. Mostly things related to textiles, and lots of photos of Victor Velluto, an elegant goofball Russian Blue cat.
Pinned
Victor has made it clear that this is the only correct and true configuration of office equipment that will meet his needs.
I don't post #TenMinuteMerlin much during the winter, but this is my list of usual suspects. If I'd recorded a little earlier, Wood ducks would have been in the mix. I will never get tired of having TWO kinds of chickadees

Incredible patterns on this 18th-century Innu or Naskapi painted hunting coat; it was worn on caribou hunts and the patterns honour Papakassik, master of the caribou.

Very glad to have come across this tip
new iOS update is sleek and also defaults in Music to “you must want songs transition as they would on a dance floor.” so many people will wonder why they can’t just listen to an album. Apps > Music > Song Transitions > toggle off.

This was an excellent conversation between two people who clearly love information and the ways we find it and manage it. I found it very encouraging.
On Lawfare Daily, @noupside.bsky.social spoke to Jimmy Wales about his new book, “The Seven Rules of Trust,” how Wikipedia became one of the most trusted sites on the internet, and the outside pressure it’s come under—from American congressmen, to Russian censorship campaigns. youtu.be/gtp1u8X5JVY

It’s been raining for a solid 24 hours and I think this morning the sun has decided to sleep in, or maybe just stay in bed the whole day

Popped into the Kidderminster Museum of Carpet that is unfortunately closing down soon. It will be a great loss to the town and another symptom of the general lack of care for heritage in this country

I think I hear my To Be Read pile calling
Heavy rain is expected to begin across the Pacific Northwest tomorrow and linger through the week. Rainfall amounts up to 10" are possible within the Olympics, Cascades, and coastal ranges. 🌧️

Check conditions before traveling and never drive across a flooded roadway.

The article is interesting but the best part is the map title “Locations of unlicensed beavers in England” because the idea of asking a beaver to show some ID is too wonderful 🦫

New poster! Only two weeks until my workshop “Sails, Silk, and Ancient Seas”. I am happy that so many students have taken an interest in ancient Mediterranean and Chinese seafaring. Reviewing their work and helping them refine their posters has taught me a lot about Chinese maritime history as well.

In addition to various vocalizations, Northern Cardinals have also been known to use semaphore
A Northern Cardinal kicks up snow as he hops along the boardwalk railing. From this angle he looks like he has tiny little wings for a Cardinal.

I’m a big fan of these magnetic glasses hangers. The last time I ordered some they only had the version with rhinestones, so that’s what I got. This means that on sunny days I THROW RAINBOWS. Highly recommend.

(Okay, no, I *don’t* wear much jewelry around the house)

A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

The most inspiring #sewing journey of the week. I love it when adults have the courage to learn new stuff (particularly when the stuff involves seeing)🪡
A few weeks ago, I creeped on my kid’s Pinterest board for Christmas ideas and found the below, an “vintage” Ugly Doll bat wearing a nightshirt and cap. I could find the bat, used, but not the pj’s. Bear in mind: I cannot, in fact, sew.
